Temple Yes! Typical timing of others?

We are very grateful–our son received an acceptance letter/packet to Temple University for Fall 2017 in the past two weeks! While not explicitly stated in the material, it appears he is eligible for the Honors College (an honors college pamphlet was sent with his packet, and his grades/SATs are consistent with Temple Honors College averages).

Regarding several other schools to which he applied Early Action, when is it usual to receive word on acceptance? We were pleasantly surprised to receive positive news from Temple so early. Wondering when we might potentially hear more good news…Any thoughts appreciated. He also applied to Drexel, Northeastern, Emerson, Suffolk, & U. Mass-Boston.

If he got an honors college pamphlet, he should be in.

Most EA and ED announcements are around Dec 15th – to allow students to apply to others with Jan 1 deadlines should they not be accepted.

BTW: Congrats!

Temple’s default admissions mode is rolling admissions. For Early Action applicants, they promise a decision before January 10, but in lots of cases, especially for high-stats applicants, the normal rolling admissions process will provide a decision long before that. Which seems to have happened for the OP’s child.

It’s rare to offer both rolling admission and early action – usually it’s one or the other, not both. Most early action programs provide a decision around the second week of December (give or take), i.e., leaving enough time to apply to additional colleges with December 31 deadlines if the applicant is rejected or deferred. At those colleges, I think it’s unusual for someone other than a recruited athlete to get an official decision before then. But with rolling admissions colleges, an applicant can get a decision much earlier. Many years ago, my daughter applied to Pitt in mid-September, and got an acceptance three days later.

Thank you.
