For schools like Ivy’s, Stamford, etc., how highly ranked do you need to be? I see virtually all the team members were rated at 5 stars on a popular high school tennis player ranking site. Can a 2 or 3 star recruit player be recruitable at these schools?
Stanford regularly is one of the top teams in NCAA. From an athletic standpoint, you would have a much better shot at an Ivy. This applies to both men’s and women’s teams. The Ivy teams are almost never in the top 25 and both Stanford teams are regularly top 10 at least.
You will need to look at the range of the school’s UTR ratings for the players. Most of the Ivy League schools have very highly rated players. If you are looking at Tennisrecruiting.net, those rating can be misleading. Colleges mostly look at their UTR.
The answer is no. Even a highly ranked four star is not recruitable, regardless of grades. If grades and scores are very high, try getting in on your own.
For Ivy League, if male, you will want a UTR of at least 12.5. You will need higher than that for Stanford.
Thanks to everyone for your replies. Was trying to understand some advice from a HS tennis coach about my younger son. Coach was saying he’d seen some UTR and tennisrecruiting ratings as being acceptable for recruiting at HYPS that I thought were quite low. The comments above seem more in line with what I thought.
