Tenting and Supplies

My son plans on tenting for bball tickets. Can anyone suggest any holiday gifts for him that would be related to this i.e. supplies, etc. ?Thanks so much .

very warm sleeping bag and pad for under it, flashlight and batteries, thermos, ipod hat has built in ear phones.

Thanks so much for the ideas.

I wouldn't buy anything too expensive, as a lot of stuff gets ruined. But anything to stay warm is awesome.

I tented for the past two years and the best improvement that was made between the first and second is that we bought air mattresses for the entire tent the second year.

I can't stress enough how much it improved life in the tent. So it rains quite frequently in Durham around Jan/Feb for some reason and K-ville gets pretty well soaked. Water, I promise you, will get in the tent unless its very, very well constructed; sleeping in freezing water and having a sleeping bag soaked in water is one of the worst feelings in the world and one of the best to catch a cold. Having an air mattress (with charged air pump) to keep your son off the ground would be the best choice. It's not that expensive either... a queen sized mattress only costs around $25 if you shop around and will actually fit two people.

Other things would be tent light (enough to illuminate the entire tent), shoe box, very large towels, and night snacks. Basically anything that will keep him warm is a very big plus.

Lastly if you're already looking into tents, try to find one where the entrance on the outside is protected by some sort of canopy. That way you can put a mat out there and have people take off shoes on the outside and minimize (its impossible to prevent) dirt and mud on the inside. It might seem tedious and dirty, but it'll be worth it :)

This is a copy and paste from your other post by the same name; I want to make sure I cm find this thread.

I've read a "real" sleeping bag (as opposed to a sleepover one) is good. My D came home to California last night and the temp was 37 degrees here (which is unusual). She said it was even colder there, while waiting for some midnight study break breakfast. She's planning on tenting too, or at least she was a month ago.

Hi Wei and Shrinkwrap,

Thanks for the ideas...appreciate you taking the time to respond.
