Terrible GPA at first year of college... doomed!?

Hi!

I am a Freshman now in college with a terrible GPA. In high school I had a 3.8gpa, and good scores on the ACT, AP and SAT tests. When I got to college (which I didn't want to go to in the first place, but was just pleasing my parents, lol) I had no motivation whatsoever so I dropped a bunch of classes and just skipped others.

I am going to audition for conservatory school in the Spring. They ask for the school recently attended, so I put it down. I am not looking to transfer, but to start over as a Freshman. Just wondering if my high school stats can save me (since I'm still a freshman in college) or if this college business will doom all my applications. Thanks!

Is this your first semester? You could withdrawl and have no GPA at all. Sounds like you are in a situation, but not something people haven’t seen with first semester freshman. You are definitely not doomed. If you have an advisor at your current school, you should talk to them. If you don’t have a person you can talk to there, you may want to reach back to your HS counselor to see if they can offer suggestions for you.

Yes, this is my first semester. I will talk to my advisor, I just hope it is not an ‘oh well, that’s your fault’ conversation. Thank you for your response! Glad to know that you think I have a chance!

You need to see if you can withdraw from some classes if you have to. You’ll be considered a transfer student to your conservatory and your college grades will be right on the top of your record for their consideration. You can’t start over as a freshman. If you had dropped classes much earlier in the year maybe…

It is too late for me to Withdraw from my classes now. The semester will be over in 3 weeks. I’m not going to sweat it though, I think I will just talk to my advisor.
