As of right now I have a CC GPA of 3.3. I intend on applying as a transfer to a few colleges for nursing. However, I have a beyond terrible high school record. I’m talking about a 1.4 GPA. During my senior year I was able to get straight A’s, but that didn’t make much of a difference. The only reason why my GPA is so horrific is because I had certain “circumstances” (I was homeless my whole Sophomore year and the shelters I went to were no where near my school. My Junior year I developed cancer).
I’m nervous sending in my high school transcript. I have good reconditions, and a pretty solid CC GPA, but my high school record is very unsettling. Will it be held against me during my admissions?
I plan on applying to:
Curry College
UMass Boston
MCPHS
Northeaster (I’m still debating this choice.)
Will you be transferring at the junior level or sophomore level?
If you will be transferring at the junior level, many colleges will not care or care much less about your high school record. For example, UMass Boston only wants your high school record if you have fewer than 24 transferable credits: https://www.umb.edu/admissions/ug/transfer/requirements
I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you have gone through. I hope that everything is better now. You should really consider scholarships based on life difficulties and make sure to write about that in your college essays. I don’t think universities care too much or even at all about your high school record, so you should be fine. I wish you the best of luck.
Since you seem to be targeting Boston schools, if you’re female be sure to check out Simmons College, which has a top-ranked nursing program, as well as built-in support for transfer or non-traditional students, both academically and financially.
