Testing out of courses

Does Marquette offer any kind of placement testing, like many of the state colleges do?

Son has taken three AP exams, and although he scored well, he did not score high enough to get credit through AP placement, according to Marquette's chart.

Does Marquette perhaps give credit for some courses, for example, Freshman English, through Marquette sponsored placement testing, or based on ACT or SAT scores?

Also, if you retake the English Comp AP your senior year, you don't receive your scores until mid July. Do you register for courses after this date or before?

In the case where you've registered before the AP scores come in:

What happens if you register for Freshman English I, but find out you tested out of it? Will you be able to replace it with another core course, if one is available, or perhaps get into a section of Freshman English II, again, if one is available?

Don't want to just drop a course if able to get test credit. Would rather use the slot to fulfill another core curriculum course.

Thanks for any info!

We just finished our preview visit and they suggest that you sign up for classes as if you did not get credit for the AP test. Once you get your results, then drop and add a class. My D. passed out of the first English based on junior AP credits so she just signed up for the 2nd semester and there was no problem or error when she registered. Registering for classes is easy, it’s a shopping cart version on line, so you can change things around pretty quickly.

Fortunately, you can pay the $8 to College Board and get the results BEFORE MU’s registration. S had scored a 4 on APEngLang, so we knew he’d place out of Engl 1, but we were able to get the results of his senior year APLit (a 5!!) before he registered.

The only placement MU has is for foreign language, NO placement for math, English, etc. other than straight AP results (and IB too I believe, although that doesn’t apply to us so I paid it no attention!).

Again, you need to pay the $8 to get the AP results before registration, but it was well worth it.
