I’m going into my Sophomore year and I’m trying to test out of Geometry next year to take Algebra 2 instead. Does anybody have any advice or study materials I could use to increase my chances? So far I’m just using the High School Geometry section of Khan Academy and I bought a textbook off of Amazon that’s arriving soon.
It always makes me so sad to see kids planning to test out of geometry. It’s one of my favorite math courses of all time.
Not disagreeing. However, for students who start HS with Algebra I and want to reach calculus, they have to stuff 5 pounds/years of math into the 4 year bag that is high school. Geometry is, IMO, the “best” one to double up/test out in order to achieve.
At our high school you can’t test out of geometry but you can take geometry and algebra 2 at the same time, which will then get you to calculus for your senior year.
At our high school you can’t test out of math. The only way to do is to double up (not even sure that is allowed) for geometry & algebra 2 or pay to take a summer math class at the high school (no where else) which doesn’t guarantee that you get credit.
Khan Academy is a great resource to start with. For more in depth explanations of certain topics, YouTube really can help. Also, Googling topics I didn’t understand helped me sometimes.

I’m honestly not sure if I can test out of Geometry at my school. I tried to take it over the summer but I wasn’t allowed to because of some policy about having to take all core classes during the school year. I doubled up on Geometry and Algebra 2 but I want to test out because I have to take regular Algebra 2 and Geometry H since Algebra 2 H and Geometry H are during the same period. There are also other classes I would rather fill that slot in my schedule with. Honestly though, would any public high school require me to take a class I know ALL the material for? I know our education system isn’t the greatest but that is a level of stupidity that I did not think we were capable of. I know our school has diagnostic tests for math and I know I could have tested out of Algebra 1 last year if I knew the material, so perhaps my chances are high. I would check my school’s policy, but the course guide and handbook both don’t mention anything of the sort, and my counselor has gone totally silent on me lately despite the fact that she does work over the Summer.
With that being said, I’m still going to study Geometry this Summer. Even if I can’t test out, at least I can mostly treat it as a study hall in the event that I’m forced to take the class and work on stuff for my other classes. Are there any particular topics I should focus on that are harder than others? @CavsFan2003 Are there any specific videos or channels on YouTube that you would recommend?
A single test doesn’t illustrate mastery of material I. The same way that a years worse th of quizzes, homeworks, tests and exams can
