Texans racist? :s

I'm planning on getting into a college near dallas or in dallas centre. The thing is i'm a muslim, not one of those religious nutheads with a beard or anything....i'm actually a pretty laid back guy and love to party. But i've heard texans are pretty racist :s is it true?
Another option is NYC though. Please help. Sorry if i sound arrogant or anything.

Must be hard to live among all those racists that they pray underground, have religious schools, restaurants, markets, businesses and caterers that no one knows about.

[Dallas/Fort Worth Masjids, Mosques, and Islamic Centers - Salatomatic](<a href=“Salatomatic - your guide to mosques & Islamic schools”>Salatomatic - your guide to mosques & Islamic schools)

I think a better way of phrasing this would be to ask if any Muslims on CC have experience living in Texas.

Now that i read what i wrote again, gosh i sound like an a*s :stuck_out_tongue:
@texaspg: i really didn’t mean to be arrogant, but i’m confused and need help. Sorry.

^Nah. Your title might be worded a little badly (obviously, no, the general Texan isn’t a racist), but it’s valid for you to worry about racism when moving to a new area.

I’ve lived in Texas for a few months before, and it was never an issue; most people I met were extremely friendly (note that I’m Asian, not Muslim, so I can’t speak for Muslims in the area). If there are racists in Texas, which I’m sure there are, as there are racists everywhere, they’re not in any way the majority. I think you’ll be just fine going to college there.

Yes, Muslims do have their own schools and places of worship, just as all other religions do. I don’t know how this would count as racist.

Oh great. Thanks so much man, really appreciate the help. Yeah i’ve been worried a bit lately.

What it shows is that muslims in Dallas area are open about being muslims and do not face issues because of their religion.

If there was overt racism, then it would not be easy enough to open 63 mosques with published addresses. So if OP had a beard and did namaz 5 times a day, he could still go do that at one of the mosques in a convenient location if he preferred without encountering racism along the way.

In a large city like Dallas, Houston, or Austin you will be fine. There are racists in Texas, just as there are all over the US and the world, but in large diverse cities like the ones I mentioned you will find other Muslims and people who are accepting of many kinds of people.
I am not saying that everyone outside of those areas is racist, I am from Waco and have experienced both sides of the racism coin. Overall, Texas is a large state with a diverse population.
