I am going in the Ag dept as a biosystems engineering major. They are both highly ranked in this area. Does anyone have opinions about which is the best option?

They are both highly ranked. Visit the two and see which one you feel more comfortable attending. Choose based on a combination of price and comfort level.

What state are you from ? If you are from Texas attend Texas A&M. If you are from any state other than Texas then Purdue. TAMU is pretty ugly.

While I don’t necessarily disagree with that, I wouldn’t necessarily say that Purdue is all that pretty either, and either way, if the object is getting a good education, both schools will do that.

boneh3ad: I like what you said:"if the object is getting a good education, both schools will do that.’’

That means you are just like me and that is I dont believe everything in Texas is big…LOL

unlike other texans in here who love to put down in our small state oklahoma, you are different. You are always being fair and balance. THANKS.

A few things:
First, I wasn’t born or raised in Texas so perhaps I was just never indoctrinated like many Texans are. Texas has its positive qualities, but it is hardly the shining beacon of progress that most Texans would have you believe.

Second, I still don’t like Oklahoma. Having lived there for 3 months one summer, I can honestly say I never want to live there again.

You said: “Second, I still don’t like Oklahoma. Having lived there for 3 months one summer, I can honestly say I never want to live there again.”

My answer: OK…I hear you. Then you dont need to go back to oklahoma for whatever reasons, especially looking for jobs in oil-and-gas industry. Oh by the way, if you ever got a job offer from Oklahoma then tell the hiring manager you dont like Oklahoma. More importanly, we certainly dont miss you.

What happened when the Texas Aggie moved to Oklahoma?

The average IQ of both states went up.

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

Well the good news is that I didn’t decide to get a PhD in aerospace engineering to get into the oil and gas industry. Seeing as how I don’t really ever plan on applying for a job in Oklahoma (not exactly a hotbed of aerospace research), I don’t think I will ever have to talk to an Oklahoma-based hiring manager. Cheers!

Texas A&M is a MUCH better party school than Purdue :)

I’d actually argue the opposite.

Unless Purdue has perked up since I graduated there in the late 90’s, everyone there looked WAY too serious with all the fun extracted from them… Not to mention the night life… I have visited College Station and Austin and they both looked considerably more, ehem, lively :). Sports may have something to do with it.

Jan2013, I’m sure Oklahoma is proud to have you as its ambassador.

I wish this forum had an upvote system I could abuse to give this statement a +1000.

XtremePower clearly has something against A&M since he attempts to put down the school every chance he gets.
Go to the one you are in state for as both are very highly ranked for engineering. If you’re out of state for both, make yiur choice on where you want to end up working, texas and the gulf? Or the midwest?

There’s something with Jan2013 and Texas… this is the 2nd thread I’ve came upon in which ZERO statement has anything mentioning or related to the state of OK. Yet he out of nowhere pop outs in TX school threads and bashed it and compare it to OK. lol

I’m a Texan, and I think the OKC Thunders are a great team. I hope this make your day. You don’t have to say, he said: “[insert sentence]” to me if you wish to reply or any others you wish to quote. Just use [ quote ] … [/ quote ]

BTW I love your state Winstar Casino.

SobeGreenTea: I like Gree Tea also as it will lower your blood sugar and blood pressure. Anyhow, granted schools in oklahoma are not the best but when talking about PETE (Petrol Engineering), I believe we have OU and TU which are among the best in the country. If you look at their ranking, they belong into top 7…and actually between #1 and #3 and #7 have no difference at all.

That’s what I have been saying but too bad and so sad some would not get it at all. First of, ranking means nothing and if there is any then #1 and #7 will make no much differences at all.

There I have said about oklahoma, small state but when it comes to PETE, we have the best schools too.

@Jan if I live in OK I’d have no problem going to OU. However, since I’m in TX I have a problem paying $15000 extra yearly for schooling. OU is one of only 3 school in US with a drilling simulator so that’s a big advantage for students there. Ranking doesn’t matter much like you said if they’re in same neighborhood. In TX only UT ,TAMU ,and Tech have PetE major, I’m going to which ever one offer me most financial aid and assistance.

How did the topic get onto petroleum engineering? The OP wants mechanical.

All I asked was as an out of state student, which school offers the best biosystems engineering program. I really didn’t want all this fussing about Tx and OK. purdue has topped the list door two years so I just wondered about texas
