I am from Canada, thinking of studying aboard. I am taking petroleum engineering, the only school I found where there are petroleum courses are Texas a&m. either in Texas, or their Qatar campus, has anyone ever heard of the Qatar campus? this sounds bad.. but does it matter that I am a white Canadian, will the Arabs in the school not talk to me? lol am I just being paranoid?

Please make sure you do your own research with regards to the local culture, and things like gender segregation, the role of women in society, whether or not you will be allowed to drink etc. and make sure you would be comfortable with that. Whether or not the Qataris would actively shun you, you may very well find that the language barrier is huge, because whilst courses are (presumably) taught in English and English is widely spoken, they will almost certainly socialise in Arabic.

If you’re looking outside the US, then there are some UK universities that offer Petroleum Engineering - Aberdeen (relatively close to North Sea oil rigs), London South Bank (academically shocking, avoid), Manchester and Leeds (both good, solid, academic, research intensive universities on a par with the Ivy League / AAU).

thanks your right, I don’t think the middle east is a place for me right now
