If I am not mistaken, U of M-Twin Cities is at least top 5 if not top 3 for chemical engineering. So Id suggest Minnesota. =]

UMinn. as stated is a better ranked school for undergrad chem, ranked in the top 4 where as A&M is top 20-25 I believe... of course rankings are not everything. I go to A&M and while I'm not a ChemE, I do know that if you are interested in working in petroleum A&M has great connections with petroleum industries and as well as a top 5-10 ranked petroleum engineering department. In my honest opinion, you can't go wrong with either school... both will give you great opportunities. What I'd look at is the college environments of the two to see which one is your best fit (which I can assume are very different environmentally as well as politically and maybe socially).

any other opinions?

I am aware that UMN-Twin cities ranked slightly higher than Texas A&M.
Is that really a big deal?

I am leaning toward Texas A&M due to the weather.

How about the campus life?

I see that you're from California... Minnesota's a GREAT school for chemical engineering but are you ready for the weather?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo......................

The most important reason that prevents me from going to UMTC is the bad weather.

Minnesota is a top-ranked ChemE school for research. However, I agree with gstein that TA&M will probably give you more extensive industry contacts, simply due to the location. Hence, the question probably boils down to whether you want to be a researcher (i.e. get a PhD) or want to go straight to industry.

Consider where you want to live after college. If you think you'll settle in Texas, then definitely A&M for the alumni network. If you think you'll live in any other state, then Minnesota.
