I'm a hopeful English major, and I'd like to go out of state, but the places I would LIKE to go are considerably elite.
Instate wise, I'd like input on how good the English programs at TCU, Trinity, and SFA are, rankings if you can.
Out-of-state, I'm considering Duke, UVA, Emerson College, UNC, Vandy, and Furman. For an out-of-state student, which of these schools are the best English? And who would give the most scholarships based on talent? (I've won awards for oboe, writing, prose interpretation, acting, I'm drum major, the lead actress in my school's theatre department, and have gone to state in UIL, among many other such things. ) Who would give the most based on out-of-state ness?
Thank you!!

UVA and Duke have two of the best English departments in the country – certainly top 10 and arguably top 5. Duke also has one of the top two literature departments in the country.

UNC has a very solid English program and has the additional bonus of being exceptionally strong in writing. Vanderbilt is weaker than the other three but is still decent. Emerson does not offer much in the way of English compared to the others, but it has an excellent reputation for creative writing.

If you get in Duke and can afford to go there, go there. Forgot about the rep of the English dept. UVA and UNC are state schools and it will be really tough to get in because they have in-state quotas.

You havent posted anything about your qualifications but for what you’re seeking you need to be close to 4.0 or more, have taken all AP of IB courses, top 1-5% of your class and 1450+ SATs (English and Math)
