So I'm applying to UT right now, and I am thoroughly confused by their honors app. I wasn't planning on applying for it b/ i'm OOS, but I ended up saying "why not?" now, however, I'm a little confused. If I get rejected from Honors, do I get rejected from UT as a whole? Or do I get deferred to regular? and do I need to submit both a normal UT app and an honors app? or just an honors app, or what, exactly? Please help! Thanks!

Honors is a separate application process from UT admission although they both use the online application. You must submit the UT application regardless. The honors application is optional. I recommend you send the honors app. It goes along the lines of “why not” and also its fun making the honors admissions department read more applications :D

If you get declined from honors, you can still get accepted to that school.
If you get accepted from honors, you must have been accepted to UT.

3 Things can happen:
Accepted to School of Engineering but Declined from Engineering Honors.
Accepted to School of Engineering and Accepted Engineering Honors.
Declined from School of Engineering and Declined from Engineering Honors.

If you get declined from honors during freshman application, you may be able to do a sophomore admission after freshman year at UT such as Business Honors.

Usually honors decisions come after the UT admission decision.
