Texas schools

^^^ yep!

With your current stats you are in no way lined up for any merit aid at TAMU. Even if you had crazy awesome stats with an ACT of 34-36, merit aid at TAMU is never guaranteed.

Find out exactly how much your parents can pay per year.

50k per year myos1634 and yea i would not mind looking into those schools (a man has to explore the world)and my parents say if i continue my effort they will help me so yea first priority is to improve my score +4

‘willing to help’ is a bit better but still not helpful. It sounds like you need to focus on the automatic and competitive full tuition /full ride scholarships.

@Noel602 “and since i have reduce lunch i have the online prep from the act website.” If you are on the reduced lunch program, If your parents cannot afford your lunch expenses and you are on state subsidy programs, how are they going to be able to afford college expenses?

^ op needs to focus on meet-need colleges. Texas colleges are bad for high need students.

Hey i was wondering if you could update your new test scores when you apply. Like if i were to apply by august and then take the act in sept could i update the composite score on apply texas?

You should check with the individual schools, I’m sure they could guide you.

So you left us hanging…how is your EFC $50K but you are on the free or reduced lunch program?

I guess since my parents are supporting a lot of children with that salary. I have like three other sisters. Thanks for your advise and sorry for the delay.

I still think you are confused with EFC and income.

An EFC of $50,000 per year implies your parents combined income is close to $150-200,000 per year. Even with three kids I don’t think that would qualify you for free or reduced lunch.

In Texas, your parents total income per year (with a family of 5) would have to be less than $53,000 to qualify for free or reduced lunch.

EFC = Expected Family Contribution

Your info is all very conflicting

Oops i am sorry and no my parents do not make that kind of money (gee i wish). I ment to say 50k per year.

@Noel602 … Yeah that’s what I was thinking.

Income and EFC are way different.

You need to do some digging around and learn what EFC stands for and how it will apply to your situation. You need to target schools that meet full need or schools that give automatic merit. Goodnight!

Good catch carachel !
Op:
An efc of 50k would mean your family makes about 250-300k for a family of 5. :slight_smile: hence our asertion you wouldn’t get financial aid.
With reduced lunch you automatically get fee waivers for the sat reasoning and sat subjects - look into it as subjects can showcase your academic strengths. You get fee waivers for universities that cost money to apply to (not all do - Colby doesn’t, for instance) .
It means 100%need colleges may well be better deals for you then your instate choices - Texas schools are bad for lower income students and the state did away with some state grants a few years ago, turning them into state loans, leading to higher than recomlended levels of debt for lower income and middle income kids.
However you may qualify for some scholarships at some public universities so of course apply. Typically I believe they allow for a test score update in the fall.
