If you have Texas Tomorrow Funds, I wonder how that fit into your decision about how many hours to take each semester.

My son has 8 semesters of fees and 120-something hours of tution. I figure he should steadily take 15-16 hours a semester. He is a traditional freshman. Other than credit for RHE 306, he's going in with no credit.

Any helpful hints from parents or students who have used TTF at UT?

UT is a somewhat unique in that they charge undergraduates a flat tuition/fee schedule based upon the school they are admitted into.

[Tuition Costs : Tuition Dollars & Sense](<a href=“Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin”>Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin)

UT will bill the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan, a.k.a. Texas Tomorrow Fund, for the number of hours your child is signed up for each semester. All class related fees are included in the hours charged. The separate 8 semesters of fees are not billed, or used for that matter, by UT. So, if your child takes 14 hours, for example, TGTP will deduct the 14 from the total hours you purchased and that’s all. He will have the freedom to take as little as 12 hours, and at most 17 hours.

The only items not covered are optional fees such as the Longhorn sports package and parking.

Be sure your son has contacted the registrar/bursar’s office and given his contract ID information so that they can bill TGTP accordingly.

If you have the four-year public university plan, you have 128 hours paid for. That’s an average of 16 hours for each of the 8 semesters.

UT will bill TGTP directly. Just fax a copy of your student’s TGTP ID card to the Student Account Receivables Office at (512) 471-0212, along with your student’s name, UT EID, phone number and the semester the TGTP will be used.

Ours was processed very quickly after my son registered at orientation. Seeing a zero balance on his tuition bill page was a very nice sight!

Some TGT plans were purchased at 120 hours if done so before 1996. Ours is such a plan. Whether the plan is 120 or 128 hours, your child is only billed for the number of hours he/she takes in a semester. So, if one semester your kiddo takes 16 hours and the next semester he takes 14 hours, they deduct 30 hours. It is just a running total and not predicated on the number of years in attendance. He has ten years to use all of the plan’s hours you purchased.
