Textbook Questions

Does it matter what edition you get?

What does the UM version of “Calculus” for Math 156 have that the standard version doesn’t?

Is it reasonable to use a downloaded PDF file of a textbook for a class? So far, I have been able to download the Math 156 textbook (non-UM version) and the Physics 160 textbook (University Physics, both volumes). Both are indexed by chapter.

Is there a textbook required for Engr 100 or Engr 110?

1.) It depends. Ask your professor.

2.) I can’t speak for that specific book, but generally the custom versions of textbooks are the same as the regular textbook except without the chapters that the class doesn’t cover. Usually they cost a little less than the regular textbook, but you have to take into account the fact that you won’t be able to resell it outside of U of M. You should confirm this with your professor, though.

3.) Yeah, you’ll probably be fine with the PDF version. (And you’ll save some money if you know what you’re doing… ;)

4.) Don’t know. Someone else will know, though, or you could e-mail your professor.
