Hey guys.
I just went to the campus online bookstores and searched for my classes and for the textbooks required for those classes. For Math 115-171, it requires the Calculus - Single Variable - Hughes. Am I suppose to assume this is correct? Or should I wait until my professors update CTools?

Do not buy it from the bookstore (unless you want to pay a large markup), but yes I would buy the book asap when prices are lower (i.e. right now).

I concur with blackpen2008’s logic here and utilize web sources such as amazon.com, half.com, ebay.com, facebook marketplace, and bigwords.com to encounter the best prices for your particular textbooks needed for this upcoming fall. Also, come the week after classes commence, the Student Book Exchange, which refers to used textbooks being sold by students at reduced costs is another method you should seek when purchasing textbooks at an extremely inexpensive rate. Furthermore, you can easily turn this into a handsome profit when selling your books back as well if buying from the SBE.

thank you
I have one more question. I need to get Calculus - Single Variable - Hughes. I found Calculus - Single and Multivariable - Hughes from a UMich student that used it for math 115-116. Would this work? To use one book for both classes or should I just purchase the single variable book?

Make sure it’s the same edition, and you should be okay.

I can’t even find half my books from the publisher online with the isbn number

This year there are a couple books I couldn’t find anywhere but ulrich’s. Thankfully they were cheap ones anyway. One of my professors has yet to post a booklist and I am getting very frustrated, they are going to leave me no choice but to purchase at the bookstore because I won’t have any time to wait for shipping. Blaaaah.

i ordered my calc book online, but i didn’t expect shipping to take so long!!

i am not going to have by my first and possibly second calc class…
do you think that is going to be a problem???

Shouldn’t be a problem. I only ever used the book for team homework and reviewing for exams. I do not believe that team homework is assigned the first week, but even if it is, someone in your group will have one you can use.

Where do you find out textbook’s for the upcoming Fall 2010 classes. When I go to CTools it doesn’t show the books we need for the Fall?

Adam

WA has them. Go to weekly something view and it has a choice to see the book list.

Does eng151 have a book? Cuz its not on WA

Can’t seem to find that link still. Anyone know off hand what textbooks if any are used for Psych 111, Stats 250, English 125, and Environ 102?

Adam

You go to wolverine access, then click student center. You can either go to “class schedule” and then select “textbook view” or you can just select “textbooks,” I believe.

…two of my professors still haven’t posted what books we need for their classes. Is there another place we can look up what textbooks we need besides WA?

Also, for the calc 156 book it says

But I can’t find a 5th edition book anywhere, half.com only has 6th edition of “Single Variable Calculus” by James Stewert…could anyone tell me what you guys are doing for your Math 156 book? It costs freaking $141 at Ulrich’s :( Thanks!

oh and searching the ISBN won’t work either :(

I was able to find a few of my book lists on the bookstore websites. Apparently the professors remembered to send them there but forgot to post them on WA. One of my professors still hasn’t posted anything.

Do you think it is ok just to order the books based on the bookstore’s lists for classes?

I’m in the same situation for 2 of my classes when the professor hasn’t uploaded what books we need but i was able to find them on the bookstore websites.

Should i go ahead and order them based on the bookstore sites?

I dunno, I did.

Ya this sucks, I found my Calc 3 book but both of my chemistry books are nowhere to be found. Using the ISBN on the publishers own website nothing comes up. And how am I supposed to know if an older version works or not? I don’t think I can even do that cuz I need the OWL access.

@ yosup Really? I remember seeing they wanted the 6th edition somewhere.

Anyway, I can send you a copy of the 5th if you want, PM me.
