My HS D had the opportunity to visit a conservatory today, and was lucky enough to have a current student give her a tour. This provided wonderful insight and was a terrific introduction to the school! Other than a written note, I need your suggestions for some way to thank our guide. Kicking myself that I didn’t come prepared with something. Wasn’t sure that it would have been appropriate to pay her for her time…
I have never heard of a gift, or even a thank you note , for a student-led tour. Very nice but not necessary I would think. Did the school set it up? Is the student doing work-study?
Thank you for your thoughts, @compmom. No, the school didn’t set it up, and it wasn’t work study. Just a current student who is the friend of a friend’s friend–if that makes sense. Lol. We didn’t know the student previously, or even the person who arranged the tour. Our guide took over an hour of her Sunday to show us around–which was super kind & helpful. I just wish I had been organized enough to have a small thank you for her. I wasn’t sure if/how that was done, and didn’t want to commit a faux pas!
How nice, @mom2clarinetobsessedkid ! I don’t think it’s necessary, but a short note and a $5-$10 Starbucks (or local coffee shop gift card) seems very appropriate to me!
Oh that was nice. My kid shows people around all the time informally and no one has ever thanked her. I would think a card would be nice, or even an email.
