In addition to giving my professors who wrote my letters of recommendation thank you cards, I'd also like to give them gifts.

I was thinking of giving them baked sweets, but I'm not so sure.

What are good and appropriate gifts to give professors? It's not only because they wrote my recommendation letters, but I enjoyed being in their classes when I had them, and I do respect them as people.

Back in high school I gave the teachers who wrote me recs chocolate and coffee and coffee cups in a small basket. I would think profs aren't too different-- most people like good coffee and chocolate.

I think something you make, like baked items, is a nice idea. There was another thread - quite a lovely one, really - on this subject at the end of last year's transfer season. One ccc kid sent postcards from his new school telling the profs how grateful he was, how important they were to his sucess. As one person said on that thread, "you can't forget where you came from."

To me, it was a feel-good thread to read, as is this one, so you might search it out for ideas as well.
