Thank You note for teachers who wrote LORs??

I was wondering if it would be good idea to give a thank you card to the teachers who wrote letters of recommendation for summer programs I applied to. Would it appropriate to include a small gift ($5-$10 gift card, chocolates, etc.) with the note? Should I tell them whether I was accepted/rejected from the programs they wrote LORs for? What type of message would be appropriate?

I know it is always a nice gesture to give a thank you card, but I just wanted to see how others feel. I have seen it discussed before for college recommendations, but not for summer programs.

My son did exactly that, Thank You card with a Starbucks gift card…I think it shows class and thoughtfulness.

I think I will give just a thank you note that will:

 1. Thank them for writing the recommendations.
 2. Tell them that I enjoyed their class & why.
 3. Tell them which program I will be attending.
 4. Wish them a good summer.

Yeah, definitely do thank you cards. Teachers really appreciate notes like that - my teachers keep them for years.
