I had an interview yesterday with an alumni over the phone. After the interview, I thanked the interviewer over the phone. Should I still send him a message thanking him or will it look like i’m sucking up to him?
I think you should send a thank you email, it won’t look like you’re sucking up it will just look like you’re being polite 
Sending a short email saying thank you is pretty standard.
