Thanking teachers for recommendation letters

Hey guys! does anyone know what’s best for thanking teachers for writing your summer program recommendation letters? are you supposed to get them a present, a gift card, a thank you note, etc.? also, what gifts are better for male teachers, and for female teachers?

I believe a thank you note or card would suffice, and be the most professional option.
