Gift for teacher who wrote recommendation letter?

Hey guys I’m new here and I’m not exactly sure if this is the right section to post this to but…
Is it necessary to get the teacher who wrote your recommendation letter a small gift? I know many prospective college students will get their teachers gifts but I wasn’t sure if a summer program recommendation equates with a college recommendation. The summer program I will be applying to is Summer Science Program, if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

I think it does. I am actually interested to know this as well. D gave her teachers gift cards for Christmas in anticipation of them working on her summer programs recommendations.

I gave one of mine chocolates but that was mainly because it was on short notice (only had 10 days for the scholarship and gave her a week). So it’s nice but not necessarily an obligation, but at least do a thank you note

I think a starbucks gift card is just fine. A teacher of mine said that most teachers would really only expect a $10 gift card if they were to get anything at all. A $15 gift card to a place, like Starbucks maybe, would mean a lot alongside a handwritten note (but not a long letter).

@seal16‌ @viewthroughkohl0‌ @pbear20‌ Wow thanks for the replies! I am definitely going to write a card out to my two teachers who are going to write the recommendation letter. Would a gift card really be ok in this situation, since it usually comes off as not that thoughtful of a gift?

Yes, a gift card is a great gift for a teacher. They often get too much bric-a-brac. Something that can be eaten or used up (i.e. the candy suggestion) or a small gift card is the very best gift.

As a teacher, I can say that gift cards are FABULOUS!!

@prospect1‌ @nerdymathmama‌ Thanks for your input! Would you say that the gift card should be around $10-$20 in value?

Yes, that price range should be fine, depending upon the socioeconomics and customs of your area.

That sounds great to me! I would be thrilled!
