My son just came home from MIT's CPW (admit week-end) with a really cool mug that was handed out free to all the Class of 2018. It's a handsome black mug with red MIT letters. And when it's filled with hot water the MIT letters mysteriously turn into...Caltech!!

He/we feel honored to become part of the Caltech-MIT hack tradition legacy :-)

Several years ago, at the admit weekend, the MIT admittees received tee-shirts that had MIT on the front, and the back said “because not everybody gets into Caltech”

ok, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to MIT, so I also went to CPW and bagged not 1, but TWO mugs! :D

And I must say, a big THANK YOU to whoever planned this event. Whoever spent the money having all those mugs made ($5-$10 each? about 1000 of them), transported, and having all the lively, happy, and welcoming Caltech students transported on campus as well, for a total of, what, over $10,000 spent on prospective MIT students? It is lovely to see that Caltech students care so much about us that they are willing to spend money like that to give us FREE MUGS while selling those mugs to their own prefrosh for, what, $16? No wonder over a third of Caltech admits will commit there.

MY ONE COMPLAINT: I really wanted the shirt though. I still want it. And I want it free.
