That Repulsive Smart Water Commercial

I know that this sits pretty low among the world’s problems and maybe it’s a sign of old-age, but is anyone else as repulsed by that Smart Water commercial that plays 100 times a day on various radio stations? You know the one, where someone doing a very good imitation of Andy Cohen, lists all the advantages of Smart Water, including gulping it loudly while “putting your earphones on” in order to avoid talking to the passenger next to you? You can practically see the guy’s adam’s apple going up and down. I mean, it was kind of funny the first time I heard it. But now I kind of find myself gagging in tandem with his swallowing noises.

More generally, why is bottled water so commonly used in the US when most of the US has drinkable tap water?

“If it doesn’t come packaged in a petroleum product, how do I know it’s good?” probably.

Never heard it. The only commercial radio I listen to is our local town station and it mostly has local ads.

I have not seen the ad in question, but clearly it is extraordinarily successful. It’s got people talking about it!

What is a radio station? I stream mostly in my car :joy::radio:. But I honestly don’t recall it but now I have to listen for it.

I hear it all the time on the Tune In streaming service. I guess the ultimate solution is to pay for it.

Huh, that’s what I use mostly. Evidently, I am not paying attention to the commercials… Lol

I’ve been accused of having hyperacusis. I also can’t stand loud chewing.

I don’t do much radio anymore and have not heard this either. Which sounds like a very good thing! Usually listening to playlists or podcasts that don’t run it.

You might actually have misophonia. It’s a terrible condition. My daughter has it.

So…within the last week or so, the spokesperson has been replaced by the SNL alumnus, Pete Davidson. Much better. The schtick still incorporates a lot of audible swallowing, but when Davidson does it, he sounds less like a frat boy trying to get on your nerves.
