Why should anybody care that some totally ossified people who graduated in the 1950s are “appalled” by this video? They’d probably be appalled by a lot of new-fangled innovations at Yale, like women. In my opinion, this video represents a pretty typical Yale attitude (mixture of pride and self-mockery) that goes back at least to the 1970s. People who don’t like the video probably also dislike the YPMB and silly names of a cappella groups.

True, there have always been people, even at Yale, who feel this way. Very serious people, who would prefer if other people were more serious, too. It’s OK–it takes all kinds.</p>

<p>Did anyone else notice how crowded all the shots were in this video? The residential college shots and the cafeteria scene especially were so dense looking. I realize it’s a contrived video, but is that the best light for the university to portray the residential colleges in? It looks like you would fight for a seat/privacy/quiet within your “home”.</p>

<p>Are you trying to send a thinly-veiled insult? I do wish people were more serious, but it’s not why I dislike YMPB and the prevalence of a cappella here. The former is annoying amateurish - it pains me to see them at football games - and the latter yields little more than a bevy of shows featuring repetitive music that fails to please my ears. I don’t mind that it exists, and obviously my musical tastes are not similar to everyone else’s, but I dislike how ingrained it is into Yale’s musical culture.</p>

I wouldn’t call it an insult, exactly, more of an observation. I find it a little sad for a young person to have this attitude, but perhaps it’s just natural to some people.</p>

<p>im as silly as a person can get, and the only tiny thing ive disliked throughout about yale is the acapella stuff. people just take it so seriously! i like good songs, but most of the time it all sounds the same. i dont mind good acapella, it can get realllyyy good. but most of the time its just a little ridiculous.</p>
