Pomona = private LAC. Berkeley = public university. Let's not compare.
Actually, brand_182, the Baylor College of Medicine is not even associated with Baylor University. It makes things very confusing
Ha! Then I guess there is nothing particularly good about Baylor.

Sorry if I hate on Baylor so much. My mom has a very rich friend that brags all the time because her daughter goes to Baylor as an undergrad; she also talks crap about public schools without realizing that UT/A&M offer a better education than Baylor at a fraction of the price.

Meh. What can I say. My words are overproduced by influence.

Cal-Tech
Stanford
UC Berkeley

I would disagree when people state that Pomona is better for undergrad. For who? Not for individuals pursueing undergraduate research. Maybe for the smaller class sizes and extra attention. however, i prefer a university with research opportunities and a world class professors. Not that pomona doesnt have world class professors, but the faculty at Berkeley is truly amazing. Although not particularly important this this debate, the Berkeley name carries well both nationally and internationally, better than pomona, period. it is difficult to compare a large prestigious research university to a small but prestigious liberal arts school. But any list of california's top 3 schools that is missing UC Berkeley is simply not correct, unless class size and personal attention is extremely important to the poster.

pomona vs. berkeley

Berk for sure

not even close

Maybe for people who would like to obtain a post-undergrad degree (M.D., Ph.D, etc.). I don't think students who attend LACs are going there for the undergraduate research...
it is difficult to compare a large prestigious research university to a small but prestigious liberal arts school.

You say this after you post all that information above about: class sizes, faculty, name-brand, and research opportunities. Those sound like comparisons to me.

I would say it depends.

I think Whitman is widely considered to the best school in Washington, and Gonzaga is certianly not second

The only legitimate order I can see Washington's list is Whitman, UW, University of Puget Sound

Not in any particular order.

Eh...I don't see why anyone would choose to attend UPS over UW. UW (especially for in-state) is significantly less expensive.

"Maybe for people who would like to obtain a post-undergrad degree (M.D., Ph.D, etc.). I don't think students who attend LACs are going there for the undergraduate research..."

What? you dont think many students go to college for undergraduate research? well you would be wrong, even at liberal arts universities it is becoming more prominent. i understand that pomona has a high percentage of individuals going on the phd's and md's jd's etc. if I were going to make random statistical arguments why one university is better than another, then berkeley's entering class had 99% of its freshmen class in the top 10% of their high school class, pomona's percentage is significantly lower. look, i didnt attend berkeley, so this is not personal. but i already layed out my argument why i feel berkeley is in the top 3 undergraduate schools in california. undergrad research, world class faculty, recognition, etc. if you dont think students at colleges at berkeley's level care about undergrad research, especially in the sciences, then you are a fool. i am not a liberal arts hater. if you want to go fish out random stats to back up why you think pomona is better, great. im sure i can pull out random facts why berkeley is better, such as percentage of freshmen class in top 10% etc. we can all drop numbers backing up are points. im not argueing pomona is not a good school, its an excellent school. however, i feel that berkeley with its research opportunies, faculty, recognition, etc is a better place for studies. furthermore, the tuition cost at pomona is very expensive compared to berkeley in state. with financial aid, however, this would not be as large an issue. if you disagree with my views, good for you, but dont attack me simply because you dont agree with me. i dont believe a list of the top 3 schools in california could exist without cal tech, stanford, and berkeley.

"You say this after you post all that information above about: class sizes, faculty, name-brand, and research opportunities. Those sound like comparisons to me. "

i believe i stated it is difficult to compare. does this meen i cannot compare whatsoever. of course not. just because i said it is difficult to compare does not meen i cannot attempt to list some similiarities and differerences. what the hell are you talking about?

Why? I didn't. You asked who would want to attend Pomona over Berkeley and I just answered your question. Besides, your previous post was filled with random arguments as to why you thought Berkeley was better than Pomona.
then berkeley's entering class had 99% of its freshmen class in the top 10% of their high school class, pomona's percentage is significantly lower.

I'm assuming you don't know Pomona's actual percentage, but it MUST be lower than Berkeley's.

Ok, I don't attend Pomona.

I thought we were talking about Pomona and Berkeley, not other so called Berkeley-equivalent universities.

I never said that Berkeley-equivalent universities (?) don't care about undergrad research. With that said, are you saying that Pomona is a Berkeley-equivalent? I thought you were trying to disprove this and insist that Berkeley is better than Pomona.

Don't call me a fool. In my post, I NEVER attacked you, so don't attack me.

I don't. I had/have no intention of looking up stats.

I never attacked you. How is answering the question that you proposed attacking you? Besides, you attacked me!
