The American Pageant

I am considering self-studying AP US History, and have been looking for the best text book to use. After some research, I am finding that most schools use The American Pageant for the class? Do you guys find this to be true?

Yeah.. It's true.

'K, does anyone know a good place that I can get one cheap? With the test at $82, I can't afford to spend a lot on the book, too.

Try Ebay. You can also get the guidebooks.

if you search for ap us study guides on google, a website will come up that has the entire american pageant outline

What chocl8lvr is referring to is helpful, but the book is most important, otherwise you'd be missing out on a lot.

Hi Katie,

Here are some good sites for books:

New books: www.addall.com (price comparisons of many vendors)

Used books: www.used.addall.com (same idea)

Both used and new: www.bookfinder.com, www.amazon.com

These sites are great for finding cheap books. I found many, many used copies of THE AMERICAN PAGEANT at the "addall" used site. But, you will want to be careful about which edition you want; obviously, a 1975 edition might be cheap but probably won't be the most helpful.

You will also have to consider the condition of used books (which is reported on the used book sites). Many really cheap ones will have a lot of highlighting or underlining, which may or may not bother you. Theoretically, books in "very good" or "fine" or "like new" condition won't have highlighting; books in "good" condition can, and books in "acceptable" condition probably will. You can e-mail the seller to get a better description whether or not there is underlining and if so how much.

On the amazon.com used book area, there is buyer feedback so you can get an idea of how relaible the particular seller is.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about book shopping on line, I have done a lot of it (probably more than I should have...)

I'd also like to say that I too admire you and your efforts and am happy to help in any way I can. Consult this forum often; as you know, a lot of people here are eager to help kids out.
