the answer to most CC posts i see.

first of all can we please stop with all these "chance me" posts?
either you get accepted or not.

for most schools, its the same

Try to get these (if you're thinking top 20/ivy)

-good grades (aim for A's. take as many AP's as possible/you can handle)
-good sat scores (700+ on each section)
-a passion in extracurriculars and doing what you love while trying to stand out just a little more than the rest of the pack
-awards.
-VERY VERY well written essays
(feel free to add on if you can think of any more)

and even then, no one can GUARANTEE everything. a lot of times this process to such selective schools is known as a crapshoot, so lets stop these chance me threads.
even if everyone says "omg you're great. you'll get accepted" that doesn't mean that you're going to get in, just because random strangers on the internet said you would.
so would everyone just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop posting these chance me things. it just pushes down posts that actually are substantial, legitimate questions.

enough with my rant.

Amen to the above–I’ll add that the dopiest of the chance me posts are the “chance me, I’ll chance you back” type. Nuff said.

But I have another all-purpose answer that applies to a huge number of the NON-chance me posts: CALL THEM! Applies to admissions office, financial aid office, FAFSA, and myriad other issues that pop up here. Students would rather get answers of questionable validity from a message board than pick up the phone for a definitive response. My D tells me that as a result of the extensive, almost exclusive, use of texting and IM’ing to communicate in the social context, her generation feels very uncomfortable using the phone for a serious conversation–you can pause a minute to think before responding to a text or IM, but a real conversation requires immediate responses, and in a formal context like speaking to an admissions officer, that is daunting to this generation. Nonetheless, when you have a question about how to complete a form, what happens if a recommendation is late, whether a school superscores, how far in advance one must schedule a visit, what day admissions decisions will be released, etc., etc., etc, in other words, when there’s an obvious source for a reliable answer, don’t post on CC–CALL THEM!

ummmmm … sounds about right.

Actually, there is just one simple answer to most CC posts I see: Ask the college.
As for “chance me’s,” there is a separate forum for that, which people don’t use, which is a lesson to students on how people act.

Or of course: [Let me google that for you](LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You)

^haha love that it actually shows it out for people. and some people STILL wont get it.
it’s funny because when i google questions, most of the time i just end up finding my answer on an old cc thread haha

but i love how right after i posted this, someone posted a “chance me for stanford”
…people need to learn to read.

at least if they post a chance thread, they should do it on the “what are my chances” board… not over here.

Thanks for this post.

Chance yourself… Go to the school website, etc and figure out where you fall.

I also suggest kids stop beginning sentences with So… or Like…

Craze: Lol you can suggest but you might not recieve. Asking people to stop begining their sentences with so or like? If that bothers you. There’s something wrong cuz when we post on here we are not getting graded on our writing haha. Just saying.

Agreed with this post UNLESS there’s a specific question to be answered by the community. Like (sorry crazed) “why is NHS not really well regarded” or “will my state be detrimental in my app”. These aren’t fantastic examples, but the point is that there can be extenuating circumstances for "chance me"s, though even then they should be on the proper board.

I doubt most of you guys here are seniors…I’m pretty sure there is a different feel when you are one.

@ZombieDante: Yeah, no.

I LOOOOOVE the “Chance me, I’ll chance you back” posts! It’s like a bunch of blind men trying to lead each other to the light.

@zombiedante
im assuming you’re not a senior
because actually im a senior…and being a senior i get even more frustrated by these chance me’s than i did last year.
first of all…a lot of these “chance me” people have finished applying…SO WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO ASK FOR ANYONE’S OPINION?! what happens when you hear back happens. what cc says is not going to determine your fate. only people at a place called admissions offices can determine that.
plus by the time you’re a senior, your stats are pretty much set in stone so if people think they suck on cc or are great on cc, then that’s that. it still doesn’t change anything. if you like the school, then try applying. if you don’t then don’t. stop posting on cc and making everyone annoyed, since the answers are always the same as what i already posted here.

its just annoying for everyone. nothing is going to change and it prevents people with legit questions to be answered by hiding them through all these “chance me!”
chance me’s only either create hope that could be false or crush your hopes, even though what people say here means nothing.
and most of the time these “chances” are for schools like stanford, harvard, princeton, yale etc…schools that absolutely NO ONE can predict anyways.

This. I’m a senior as well. Have’t felt the need to make one. But even if people make them, all we ask is that they at least put them in the right place so that they don’t clog up other boards that aren’t meant for chances, such as this board.

totally agree. bump this post to the max. make sure everyone sees.

Born2dance: lol u guys complain too much if u don’t want to see chance posts then just leave that thread. Plain and easy.

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

@HoneyFlower92 There is an entire board meant for chancing threads. It isn’t unreasonable to expect that chance threads would end up there, instead of everywhere else. Not to say it’s ever going to change, but we can acknowledge the fact that sometimes it is annoying when you go to the College Admissions board and it’s clogged up with chancing threads.

^thank you born2dance94, i completely agree.
honeyflower92, it’s impossible to ignore them when its the every 2/3 posts on CC you see is like “chance me!”. i dont even click on them and i just get annoyed because i know they’re all going to be really similar stats every time.
as born2dance94 said, there’s a separate forum for chancing threads.
