The AP US Government and Politics Thread

i’m attempting to cram all i can in tomorrow afternoon…i’m a little nervous…but i feel alright about the free-response…maybe multiple choice…??!

how many and what kind of court cases should we know for the test

Any of your teachers have predictions on the FRQ?

My teacher thinks there will definitely be one on judiciary, and something in elections/campaigns, specifically voter turnout. Others have been predicting something on the media - and horse race journalism.

For now I am focusing on Presidency/Congress/Judiciary/Bureaucracy because that is like 40% of the MC. Going to read the textbook for those.

I have the Gov AP Audit and I’ll trade for any released test/s for (preferably) Art History or (if not,) Macroeconomics… any takers? (:

I’ve been reading the Princeton Review book for hours… my head hurts.

^ Same here. I got the 2004 version, though, because I didn’t want to spend 20 bucks.

@manatee: I’m staying up late tonight too, haha. I’d rather pull an all-nighter today than on Sunday. We should form a study group! (:

^ Hurray for all nighter! How do you want to do it?

I’m almost finished reading PR (about 5 pages left). Then I will probably hit my textbook and some notes my teacher gave out.

If there’s more people, we should have an AIM group chat. (: I’m also studying from my textbook now.

Believe me, this Ap is NOT hard! I would go so far as to say that it was easy. I took it last year as sophmore- got a 5. I used PR.
the MC are easy and i think you can miss 1 or 2 and still get a 5.
For the essays, and the test as whole, KNOW YOUR COURT CASES! not just the ‘important ones’ ALL OF THEM! They WILL be tested on MC and you dont have a chance at a 5 if you cant bring up specific examples for your essay and court cases work VERY well! Also, know major events and important legislation. If you can remember 1 or 2 dates, that will impress the essay grader.
MOST important thing for the essay is to have a VEEEERY strong intro. paragraph. You need to go in there and have a plethora of examples you can bring up for the essay! PR will suffice for a 5 on MC.

Wait, so I’m getting mixed messages… When I’m answering the essay questions, do I need write long essays, or do I need to just answer the question in an “a.), b.), c.), etc.” format? I think its the latter, that makes more sense when looking at the scoring rubric for the Free Response Questions, but I don’t know for sure…

i recommend a b c d. the graders aren’t going to be impressed by your writing skills, but on your knowledge (and of course how good of a job you do to express your knowledge). seriously, i went this over w/ my teacher and you’re supposed to get straight to the point, not making a long paragraph intro about what you’re going to say

On [C-SPAN Video Player - Andrew Conneen & Adlai E. Stevenson High School Teacher, Lincolnshire, Illinois](http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2009/05/02/WJE/A/18168/Andrew+Conneen+Adlai+E+Stevenson+High+School+Teacher+Lincolnshire+Illinois.aspx), the teachers recommended the “a.), b.), c.), etc.” format. I’d go with that, as it takes less time.

Less than 24 hours away! !@#$% If I don’t get a 5, no college credit for me… =(

Hi. Does anyone have the audit? Ill be willing to give you any test/s that I have, and I have a good number from many APs. For US Gov, I have one random old test (not sure what year) and dont have the answers, but i have a lot from other ones.

Please email me at apusgovernmentandpolitics@gmail.com

Thanks so much, and good luck tommorow!

My teacher was an AP grader and he said they MUCH prefer the a. b. c. d. format.

The essays are not graded on your writing ability, intro paragraphs are USELESS and a waste of time.

is anyone else finishing past FRQ’s with over 30 minutes to spare? I just did 2007 and 2008’s FRQ’s and finished in around an hour… give or take a few minutes :3 this is worrisome for me. thoughts?

I agree with organic1992, this test is not hard, if you know the material it should be a breeze. I am 100% sure you can miss more than 2 mc and geta 5, if you get a 52/60 on the mc and have average essays you will get a 5

Barron’s tests are SO much harder than the actual exams.

So what I’m doingis reading through PR and Barron’s the whole day today. Then I’m going to memorize the Bill of Rights and all the Supreme Court cases. Then I’ll probably skim through my textbook/course-notes outlines.

Good idea?

Puzzle, don’t worry about it. I finished with over an hour left. I graded myself and did fine. You probably just finished quickly because you knew the material really well and wrote fast.

Can we ask each other review questions on here? haha

I NEED to get a 4 or better on this.

Shoot.
