The AP US History Study Thread

I think its C

I think it's (E) also:

A) Wrong. John Quincy Adams was a federalist congressman.
B) This happened a lot earlier, I think.
C) No.
D) No, the democratic-republicans chose William Crawford or what not, and then 3 our 4 other candidates of the same and different parties challenged him. thus there were no clear party boundaries.
E) Yes, this election marked the end of the caucus system. Since more and more people were voting for the electors, the caucus system didn't really work to appoint a representative candidate. That so many candidates rose to challenge the nominee Crawford marked the end of the caucus system.

it's definitely E.

who was the father of "scientific management"

Frederick Taylor

Who wrote The hisotry of the Standard Oil Company?

IDA TARBELL AHHHH!!

The 1936 election that went for Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt marked the first time for what, that is still evident today?

What were the 2 New Deal programs declared unconstitutional, and why were they declared that?

dang it, reviewed this today...but i dont remember specific names

One of them was the National Recovery Administration, and I can't remember why it was declared unconstitutional.

I can't remember the name, but one of them was declared unconstitutional because it allowed a group of non-goverment officials to establish things like prices, agreements between unions, and other things that's supposed to be done by the legislature

Also the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act) which paid farmers to destroy crops and livestock to increase demand, thereby increasing prices

Because the last person didn't give a question...

Under the influence of a group of prominent rich men, the man who caused the Pottawatomie Massascre did something three years later that led to his hanging.

Who is this man? What did he do? What is the name of the group who sponsored him? How did his hanging add to the tension that existed in the country at that time?

i can only answer 3/4 of this :(
john brown, at pottawatomie creek he and his sons chopped up (literally) 5 white men and later he of course led the raid on harper's ferry. dunno who sponsored him...but his actions made the south even more wary of the north and many took his actions as evidence that northerners wanted to see a slave rebellion

Because the last person didnt pose a question...

Who wrote the famous book "Ragged Dick", and what was it about?

"Ragged Dick" was written by Horatio Alger.. this book, I think brought attention to poverty during the Industrial Revolution.

What did President Dwight Eisenhower warn America about in his farewell address?

Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of the growing power of the military-industrial complex.

How was the U.S. Steel Corporation formed?

When Andrew Carnegie sold his Carnegie Steel Company to J. P. Morgan in 1900, Morgan turned it into the U.S. Steel Corporation.

What was the "kitchen cabinet"

President Andrew Jackson was said to have consulted a group of unofficial advisors (close friends) more than his official cabinet, hence, the name "kitchen cabinet." The kitchen cabinet included people like future (controversial) US Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney.

(i dont know if someone else has already asked this question: )

What were the arguments for and against the annexation of the Philippines?

It's been nearly twelve hours...

...here's my shot:

Arguments for Philippine Annexation included a need to keep pace with the world as many European nations were becoming colonizers once more. In addition, it was believed that Philippine Annexation would provide some influence in East Asia, particularly China.

An argument against the annexation of the Philippines included a right to self-determination.

hmm, no question so.....

What was the significance of Mao Zedong inviting an American ping-pong team to his PRC?
