So I know most of you have done well enough on the AP tests to obtain some sort of college credit. I personally am at a standstill over whether I'm going to use the credit or not.

I think it'd be helpful if we put our intended major, score, and if we're going to use it for the introductory class of that subject.

Major: chemical engineering
APs will use: Lang & Comp (5)
USH (4)
Government and Politics (haven't gotten my score for this yet, but I only need a 3!)

APs won't use: Lit (1-bombed this on purpose...chemEs don't need past eng. 101)

APs not sure about: Chemistry (4)
Calc AB (4)

I would like some advice regarding Chem and Calc. Would you take the credit if you could skip the intro classes? I am 70% sure I'm going to take the class over again, just because I basically self studied both of them and probably missed some impt. info.

If you take credit for chem or calc, then you’re probably going to be stuck in the higher levels because you don’t have the fundamentals down.

I think that’s what everyone is telling me. I’d have to work a lot harder, and also my GPA might suffer. I’m going to just take calc I and chem I in the fall, especially since I’ll be getting used to college life.

Yea I got a 5 on Bio but theres no way in hell I’m using it to skip introductory Bio. Lit and World History, on the other hand, I’ll definitely use if I need credits for them in college. I’m going to be a Biomedical Engineer (hence my wanting a strong foundation in Biology).

I think the best way to use AP’s is to get out of classes that you don’t think are ultimately crucial for you.

APUSH (5)- I’ll definitely use this, if possible, to get out of a required history class in college.

APHG (5)- I doubt I’ll be able to use this to get credit in college, as most of the schools I am looking at do no grant credit for it.

APES (5) Same as above.

At my school (UCLA) there are really only three I can use:
Calc AB (5): Used to place into second semester calc, which I’m not worried about at all as far as difficulty.
Spanish Language (5): I don’t have to take a foreign language now.
English Lit/Language (5/5): I only get credit for one of these tests and they place me out of the mandatory “Writing I” requirement.

The rest are elective credits.
