The Bad (Grades) Amongst the Good (Grades)

I am applying as a transfer student to the University of Washington - Seattle for this coming fall quarter and I have a bit of a concern.

The majority of my grades are within the 3.7 to 4.0 range, but my cumulative GPA is 3.48 because I struggled in a few classes throughout and got a 2.7 (Math), a 2.8 (Math), and a 2.9 (German). None of the classes are specific prerequisites to my major, and the one specific prerequisite that I could take while in community college I got a 4.0.

So, how does UW view cases like this and how much will those grades impact my chances?

Thank you all for your time!

What typically matters most is the cumulative GPA. I would say if your lower grades were earlier in your academic career, it won’t matter as much, as an improving grade tend is seen as positive. You might want to ask yourself why you struggled in those classes, that way you can address it in your personal statement (or petition).
