The best and the worst?

Hey everyone, I’m new here. Nice to meet you all. And this is my question…

It’s taken as fact that Cal, UCLA, and UCSD are academically the top UC’s. So which of the other UC’s are considered the worst? Which ones are considered “decent”?

I ask because I’m definitely applying to Cal and UCSD, but I want to apply to others as fallbacks. I don’t live in southern CA, so I haven’t been able to learn much about places like UCI or UCR, and all I know about UCSB is that it’s got a rep as a party school.

Thanks.

All the UCs are good schools. They all rank in the Top 100. Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD are probably the more prestigous of the UCs. UCI, UCSB, UCD I would classify together in terms of academics and prestige, followed by UCSC and UCR. They're all good schools and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

All of the middle-tier UCs (and really, even the lower tier UCs) are good schools and are ranked just about evenly. If your choice is between the mid tier UCs, you can investigate the kinds of programs they have related to your major and their enviroment to help you make their decision, and visiting them is probably a good idea too. If you have specific questions about the other UCs, you can also probably get a lot of good info on the individual school boards.

2005 US News Rankings:

1) UC Berkeley (#21)
2) UC Los Angeles (#25)
3) UC San Diego (#35)
4) UC Davis (#42)
5) UC Irvine (#43)
6) UC Santa Barbara (#45)
7) UC Santa Cruz (#74)
8) UC Riverside (#81)

they are all pretty good UCs. It's really what you make of college. You can go to school, work hard, and get As or be a party guy.

Agreed.

Also, the SB party scene is over blown. Although Halloween and Welcome Week can get crazy.

which is the best for arts/humanities?

Not sure but what I am trying to say is that College is College you can go to UCR and kick butt there w/ their arts programs if you put the effort in just like going to UCB etc
