The Best Freshman Housing

i sent it in already...but i forgot to do the extra parkside app and fluor was after that as my second choice....just rethinking my options

i see. do u prefer suites over residential halls?

it used to be, but after thinking about it i realized that I could meet a lot more people in the dorms so im not sure...more comfortable living vs. meeting more people? again...im not really into partying...just wondering if living so far away at the suites will affect the amount of people ill get to meet

I'm sure you will meet plenty of people if you stay in a suite. I hear great things about Parkside. When I went to go visit, a girl was raving about living at Parkside. I guess it isn't as social as dorms but I'm sure it's not that hard to make friends.

Hey, did anyone receive a email today saying there will be large construction next to parkside and radison hotel? Did anyone change their minds about living at those places now?

I got an email from them, but it didn't say anything about construction.

i got it. parkside was my 4th choice tho...
north, new, birnkrant then it was parkside.

Dear jltrex

As we approach our Freshmen contracting period we would like to provide
you with an update on what is taking place in and around university
housing that may impact students living in the Radisson and Parkside next
year. The changes indicated below are recent developments.

First, we are planning to start construction on a new building at
Parkside to provide more university housing. This project will start in
early October and continue until completion in summer 2007. While we will
take steps to mitigate the impact of noise and dust, it will
nevertheless be a construction project and have some attendant disruption. .

The Radisson Hotel has two updates for your consideration. First,
starting this summer, there will be a new parking structure under
construction, which will accommodate 1,200 cars and be located east of the
Radisson Hotel. As at Parkside, we will take steps to mitigate the impact
of the project on residents; however, there will be some attendant
disruption. Ultimately this project will greatly improve parking for all
USC students.

Additionally, the Radisson room configuration will undergo a change for
this Fall 2005. Radisson rooms will be reconfigured to accommodate
three residents per room. This step is being taken to accommodate growing
demand for student housing. The current hotel furniture will be
removed and standard and lofted student room furniture will be brought in to
accommodate residents. As these rooms are much larger than typical
residence hall rooms, have air-conditioning, and one bathroom per room, we
believe the change in configuration won't have much impact to student
living. Radisson pricing has been reduced to $2,990 per resident per
semester.

While there are always changes taking place in our housing program
these changes are large scale and we felt you would like to know this in
advance. If this update has caused you to change your mind on the
building preference(s) you requested on your housing application, feel free to
contact us before May 16th (prior to the start of Freshmen assignments)
by email, housing@usc.edu; or by fax, 213 740-8488. You must include
your full name and USC 10 digit ID number on all correspondence and if
you fax us, please include your signature on the facsimile. Sorry, but
we cannot accommodate requests for preference changes over the phone.

oh wow. was the rate for raddison before 3150? the rate didn't get reduced by much! I didn't get that email where did you pick to live?

Whew! I'm glad I got the Radisson when I did!

my choices were

1) birnkrant
2) new
3) north
4) pardee
5) radisson hotel
6) parkside suites

From the content of the email, it sounds like I will be getting radisson or parkside suite. I pass in my housing application quite late, like in the 3rd week of april. I really want a residence hall though >_<

oh wow! i put basically the same thing too without radisson and parkside, and I turned mine in the 3rd week of april too =\ I didn't get the email though?

I sent mine in midmarch and I thought I was late!. Don't worry, I think that everyone will end up with gettting something they like, and if not, you can always go for reassignment.

Where do most people from LA/ California stay? I asked a girl here who goes to SMU but is from Malibu where to stay- she said all her friends are at Fluor - so that's where I am. I hope she's right ab it- she said its really fun and from what I hear hot guys? Can I find cute girls to room with or is it mostly- no offense- basketball-ish girls?

Heres my issue:
I sent my housing form in late (end of april), with my choices being birnkrant, n/n, fluor, pardee and was put in a triple and the raddisson. l I fought like hell to get out, and found out today that I was reassigned to a Marks Tower double, which also has a terrible reputation. Would you recommend that I stay in the Radisson or the I move to Marks? At this point I know I cant bet on having a great dorm ,but which do you think is the lesser of two evils?
Thanks.

Marks tower.

I would go with Mark's Tower, from what parents who stayed at the Radisson during orientation said it wasn't that nice.

I lived at the Radisson my freshman year two years ago (back before they had triples and had dorm furniture put in). I loooved the accomodations (the comfy bed, lots of space, bathroom, maid service, etc), but I would say go with Marks. The Radisson was a really nice place to live for comfort reasons, but for the college experience- definitely not. It just was not social (although it depends on the people you are with somewhat), and now that a lot of the things that made the Radisson good, like the great beds and space, are gone, there's not much to keep you there besides the A/C and bathrooms (both of which obviously are great). Although Marks isn't going to be as social as New/North or Birnkrant, it still is a dorm, and will probably be more social. Just remember that the experience differs everywhere for everyone, so you may end up being around really social people at either place. In the end it's what you make of it, and you could have a great time at either place, but I'd say you have a better chance of a social setting at Marks.

RAddison is awesome i woudlve loved to live there last year. However i lived in century and it was a blast becuase i had tons of room to throw parties and stuff (Although mind you i got kicked out of housing for too many :/ ) That's the beauty of living in an apartment or suite, more room for paaaaaarttttyyyys

Is anyone here living in Radisson in the fall?
