So I got an e-mail from Bowdoin’s women’s golf coach yesterday.
It sounded something like this…

“Hello,
I heard from the admissions office that you were waitlisted. I was wondering what your interest was in Bowdoin and if you had chosen a school to attend next year. Hope to hear from you soon!
Coach”

Do you think that this is a good sign? I have yet to recieve anything in the mail regarding my decision, but does anyone know how strong the sports are at Bowdoin? My teacher told me that getting an e-mail from a coach could mean that I will get accepted…it certainly gives me more hope than the Brown waitlist. I really hope I get in! Bowdoin is my number one choice right now.

Has anyone else recieved an e-mail like this in the past? Do you think this is looking good? Thanks for your help!

Well, I am no expert--but this certainly looks like a good sign! Maintain contact with her and tell her you would play golf at Bowdoin if admitted....unless you don't play golf...then this would be a bizarre situation...

If Bowdoin is your first choice then let the coach know that, again assuming you play golf. I knew some people in a similar situation at other schools last year and the coaches were able to get them in off the wait list. I will be playing sports at Bowdoin next year and from what I have heard from current students, something like 75% of the students play some sort of intramural , JV or varsity sport and a lot of their teams are very good although I am unsure about golf, you could check their website.

Emilyanne, sports are very big at Bowdoin although golf would be one of the more obscure sports. The coaches have influence with the admissions department as they submit lists of names of applicants of interest to the admissions department and bird dog the process from start to finish. That influence will rise with the caliber of athlete and the institutional importance of the sport. So even though golf is one of the obscure sports, you should follow up with the coach if you are varsity caliber and want to play sports at the college level.

I researched the team a little bit...they aren't professionals or anything, but it seems in reach for me. They compete in the NEACA and seem to do quite well. The scores I saw for Bowdoin were around my range for the past few years.
I am soo excited. I e-mailed the coach beck telling her how much I love Bowdoin and how I would love to play golf for the polar bears. (Yes, I do play golf! :) )
