Hello, everyone.
Firstly, thank you for reading and taking the time to help an individual out.
I’m currently in my last semester in community college and will transfer for the Fall 2015 quarter/semester. I have received acceptance letters from: SF State, Monterey Bay State, Long Beach State, and Cal Poly Pomona. I am currently waiting for Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State. I am majoring in BUSINESS.
Of course, I would within a heartbeat, accept the offer to go to Cal Poly SLO if they accept me. However, it’s always best to have backup plans, so here’s my dilemma. I am very well attracted to Cal Poly’s philosophy of learning (learn by doing) and know that recruiters are also attracted to students that have a decent amount of experience in the field. However, San Jose States lurks within the heart of Silicon Valley, which is the nest of the top technology companies.
My questions:
- If I don’t get accepted to Cal Poly SLO, which college should I look to get into?
- Are any of the other colleges (SF State, Monterey Bay State, Long Beach State) even worth considering with San Jose State and Cal Poly Pomona on the board?
- How dangerous is Pomona?
- Can San Jose State help me land a career with a high-paying salary in the business industry in Silicon Valley?
Thank you very much for the time you’ve spent sharing your insights, have a nice day.
CPP is not in the heart of Pomona, it is in a more suburban area and quite safe.
What is ‘the business industry’? I have heard of the banking industry, the healthcare industry, the tech industry, the manufacturing etc, but never of the business industry. So you’d better think about business sectors.
^Answer Brownparent’s question.
CSULB is quite strong too, so in my opinion it’d be between CSULB, SJSU, and CPP.
The more math you can do, especially statistics, the better, regardless of what college you decide to attend. A minor that emphasizes good writing and reading will also set you apart.
@MYOS1634 I’ve heard Long Beach is getting ridiculously overcrowded, so I’ve done some research and found that Long Beach has around 30,000 students while having less than 700 acres, wouldn’t that make competition extremely tight?
The acreageof the school has nothing to do with overcroding. At 700 acres the campus is huge.
CPP is larger in acreage because it has rolling hills and animal pastures and pens/barns, crops etc. The human occupied portions may or may not be any bigger than long beach. But acreage isn’t what is meant by overcrowding, it is class size and ability to get into the classes and the majors you want.
@TomSrOfBoston and @BrownParent good points on acreage. So how would you guys rank the CSU’s I listed above based on reputation on the business major?
