the big decision

Okay, I can't decide!!! WHERE should I go?!

-FLAGLER (Fl)
which sounds GORGEOUS and WARM ,
-GOUCHER (MD)
which I know has great study abroad,
or
-EMERSON (MA)
which has A LOT for a communications major, but maybe not as much in other fields

I also applied to Fordham but have not yet been admitted... I think I like the three above better anyway.

-I want to major in communications (possibly journalism/magazine) but I think I want to minor in international/cultural studies and I know that I want to study abroad.
-Even though I HATE cold weather, and prefer sunny warm weather, I guess I could live in the freezing cold for another four years if that meant going to the better school for me
-I love cities, but I love non-cities too as long as there is enough to do!

So if you could please give me some advice (ANYTHING), I would really appreciate it!!!! THANKS

Flagler is gorgeous and warm. I don't know anything else about it though.

By the way, I hope by warm you mean 100 deg F hahaha!!

Nah, Florida is nice, but it gets very hot and it's always humid. I like Cali weather better.

is it really hot ALL year round? I guess i don't mind :)

Yes. (10 characters!)

i like emerson but that's just me.

ughhh i hate decisions! thanks

Well, I can't make the decision for you, but I'm also looking to major in journalism. I wouldn't pick Emerson, because 1.) I'd like to try out some other fields and 2.) If I was going to be a journalism major, I'd double major in something else, like political studies. So, Emerson seems like it might be kind of limited for me.

So, that leaves Flagler and Goucher, of which I don't know much about. They seem to be comparable academically. I live in Maryland and I've never heard of Goucher...I guess it all comes down to which school has the programs you are looking for and where you feel like you fit in the best! Have you done overnights at both? Sat in on some classes?

Nope, I visited Goucher and will be visiting again next week for Admitted Students day. I did not visit Flagler because I kinda applied really last minute and on a whim! But hopefullyyyy I will be able to visit it, although it does not look like it because I am running out of time (and money)... but I have been researching it a lot and reading reviews of other peoples visits to Flagler, and asking many questions about it! Thanks for the advice... I totally know how you feel about Emerson. Its so hard to know what you want to do already, and it seems like Emerson is not really a place for exploring majors if you want to do that.

no florida is not hot all year round.....where not near the equator where there will be a higher chance of that(at least i think). but newayz during the winter it gets cold...as cold as the 20's-30's. so you need a jacket. but during late february it will heat up again to feel like spring/summer. So while its warm majority of the year "winter" is a bit nippy. (No comments about how it doesnt compare to the north...since i lived there :) )

emerson
The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

last message,
what???

oh wait i get it... sorry

Just something to think about... both people that I know who went to Flagler are transfering. Both have said that the school is beautiful, the weather is great, but it gets dull over time. Not enough variety, seeing the same people over and over, not having enough to do at the school and in the town...

I know people at Emerson and they love it. The city provides an endless means of entertainment.

thanks anovice, that is something worth thinking about and I'm glad you brought it up. I wonder if BOTH flagler and goucher are like that.. since goucher is even smaller.

Flagler: There's nothing to do in St. Augustine. Noth-ing. I have lived here for the past 11 years and I can't wait to LEAVE. You'd have to travel 30-40 minutes to get to Jacksonville. Flagler is gorgeous, I guess, but it's surrounded by a town targeted for tourists. FL isn't hot all of the time, either. Sure, it gets humid, but we get the cold sometimes. It was 37 degrees last night.

St. Augustine isn't that bad. If you like the beach, you're right there. The thing is, if the campus is good you're really not going to be leaving it that much, so the surrounding city isn't as important as you'd think.

A lot of the people at Emerson are the "rich and snobby" stereotype. It is nice to be in Boston if you are the type to take advantage of the opportunities there, but 99% of my friends who go to Emerson don't. If you think you would and that's important to you, then maybe Emerson is the place to go.

People lied about Florida being the sunny state. It rains about half the year.

Also, it gets somewhat cold. It's ALWAYS humid though, even if it's not hot (but when it's hot in the summer, it's HOT--add humidity and it's a freaking steambath with your clothes on).

I love St. Augustine. It's absolutely gorgeous. There are a few things around, like the tours and the wax museum. However, practically everyone there who is not a student is a tourist.

Flagler is GORGEOUS. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen... but I dislike the school itself greatly. The students seem to be very religious (mostly Catholic, I think?) and the academics aren't all that great.

bump (10 chars...)

tourists!!! AHHH

i do love the beach tho :)
