I am a junior in high school right now. SO what are chances of being accepted by BA/MD programs such as: SLU, VCU, Wash U, Northwestern HPME, U of Illinois GPPA, and Brown PLME.

GPA: (our school uses a 5 gpa scale)
Unweighted: 4.78/5
Weighted:5.25/5
Rank: 12 out of 496
ACT score: took one in feburary without prepping, got a 27 first try. BUT I AM GOING TO PREP OVER THE SUMMER AND TAKE IT DURING SENIOR YEAR SEPTEMBER ONE FOR 31+ SCORE.
SAT: Didn't take it, probably will soon, WHICH ONES SHOULD I TAKE?

ExtraC's:
FIRST Robotics (Team 111): 2 time FRC World/National champions (2009 and 2011), multiple midwest regional champions
FIRST Robotics 3 years Midwest Regional Autodesk Animation Award ( I am in the Animation Team as well)
Math Team
National Honor Society
Scholastic Bowl
Tennis for some years
200 volunteer hours at hospital

By the way if anyone has any excellent volunteer oppurtunities to suggest that BA/MD programs will love, please suggest them, for example any research/internship/volunteer oppurtunities at a Hospital or University, etc. Thank you A LOT!!!!!

From my perspective, here’s would I would say…

First off, you should really strengthen those ECs. Like, a lot. BUT, if you do that, then I would say…

SLU: Good shot
VCU: Pretty good shot
Wash U: Almost impossible (Sorry, but it’s true. Also, I think you need to maintain a 3.7 or 3.8 for this program, PLUS you have to get a 36 MCAT, so is it really worth it?)
HPME: A stretch, but you might as well try applying.
U of Illinois: Probably your second best shot after SLU, but you gotta build up your ECs. (Trust me, I need to do the same thing.) Though my GC told me that lately, GPPA has gotten SUPER selective, and a lot of really qualified applicants haven’t made it in recently.
Brown: I have no idea.

So, those are just my opinions based on what people at my school are getting into, but that’s all I have to say, 'cuz I’m a junior too!

Honestly, your ACT score is slightly lower than what BA/MD programs like to see. If you pull your ACT above 31 then you got a good chance at SLU, VCU and GPPA(if you are Illinois resident). For HPME, WashU, PLME you need your ACT score to be above 34. Your ECs are good. The med programs will like your hospital volunteering experience. I think the most important thing you need to improve is your ACT score and may be some great AP scores if you are in any AP classes.

statistically speaking, about 10-20% interview, 1-5% accepted depending on the program…

You know, with all the robotics, I can’t help but wonder…

Maybe it would be better for you to apply to a combined BME/MD program? I know Toledo has one for sure, but obviously you want more prestige than that…

One comment - ACT=31+ is not enough. Shoot for 33+ and apply widely, including many at state schools, if your goal is combined program. Should have not taken ACT without prep. Prepare well before taking any test.

I am not doing it for the prestige I was never interested in engineering. I just did robotics becuase it was a fun and competitive program that grew on me cause I had a incredible team. I was always interested in being a doctor.
