Wow OP this is actually pretty cool! I commend you on doing the right thing.

Last year the girl next to me asked me if I wanted to “work together” on the multiple choice, and when I politely said no she got up and moved to someone else “smart and willing”. I never really had the courage to report her; my school would’ve made my life even more hell than they’ve already made it. So it was a bold move, and nice!

I’ll be tuned for that article.

There’s something to be said for the fact that people are actually defending defending cheaters yet harassing an honest person.

Good for you, OP. Please keep us updated on what happens.

If my kid reported cheating that he saw during testing and got ANY sanctions from the school or anyone, I would get a lawyer and start a big fat lawsuit and scream bloody murder to have this in the press. Yes, I would do it, and I am not a rabble rouser of any kind.

Honest people do not lie, cheat or steal - or tolerate others who do.

Word up. Good luck OP, this whole thing sounds ridiculous.

- Action should be taken against the school, because those are just some a$$-backwards policies right there.

2)Maybe consider taking action against the OTI, or at least having them support you if you go public with the story, since they were in violation of their own terms & agreements when they disregarded your confidentiality and told your school.

I don’t know why anyone is giving you a hard time. Personally I probably wouldn’t have reported cheating, but if someone else does, I support them because they are honest. Plus, it’s not like 1 or 2 kids cheated (in that case it’s usually pointless to report and you’re more likely to get negative backlash), but an entire group of people at your school. AND your school is okay with it. In that case, I might even have reported it. Especially if you were one of the honest kids whose score might go down from the cheaters messing up the curve.

Please keep us posted about the article! Good luck!

P.S. If you are not yet a Senior, this would make a GREAT and COMPELLING common app essay when you apply to colleges. ;)

Is there any update as to what’s happening to you?

This is absolutely ludicrous, I certainly hope that your name is cleared

Hey guys thanks so much for all your support. NYCLU called OTI to work something out. My school is still putting me in sealed rooms - I had to be at school by 6:30 to help tape the door for my AP US test >.< Update to the Daily News!!

You are a complete boss. I applaud you.

What? Is this true?? They told you to be at school at 6:30 AM to tape the door? I can’t believe this. A total outrage. Why did the OTI call your school and reveal your identity? I thought calls were supposed to be confidential. And why are you being punished? You are not the culprit.

tape the door? Are you in solitary or something?

Read the story. This isn’t “a student was cheating,” it was “the school is complicit in students cheating.” The school wants to remove the OP so the cheating won’t be reported again and the school can have higher test scores.

This awesome that you’re taking action against this. Reading this situation made me really angry. Your school in is for some trouble when this gets out.

Oh and I have a theory about why OTI might have given your school your contact information. Maybe the person that they contacted when they called your school claimed that he wanted to talk to you about the incident so he or she could stop it and OTI believed that him or her and gave your contact information assuming that it was going to help get to the root of the problem.

Tag to keep up with the story. Good luck bro.

Wow, I hope this does get on the national news. Schools that condone cheating should be called out on it.

tape the doors? Isn’t that a fire hazard? hahahaha. wrong on many, many accounts. Seclusion, dehumanization, creating fire hazard, etc. I’ll be looking forward to the outcome of this. OP, you are the man!

What test was this on? Psychology?

^hah

The only thing collegeboard needs to fix is that even when someone reports cheating, it’s not actually a good thing for the reporter, regardless of whether or not schools bully him. They revoke everyone’s test and you have to take it all over again when you’ve forgotten the information.
