The Conservative and Republican Thread

i think that even if it means keeping an evil dictator in power, WE CANNOT ATTACK NATIONS WHENEVER WE FEEL LIKE IT.

This has got to be one of the most uninformed, misleading, and flawed statements I have ever heard.

tlaktan: i'm brainwashed? please. read a book. think. realize that your country is in dire need of care. then let's talk. and please. you don't know me at all. don't presume upon my ethics.

Don't you dare call me brainwashed, either. Who are you to tell me what I know, and what I can think? I realize that our country is in dire need of care -- and both ends of the spectrum are taking this nation the WRONG WAY.

Don't you dare call me brainwashed and unknowing of what this nation needs -- I've studied plenty of governmental theory, mind you. Don't you dare say that I haven't been exposed to what's out there -- because I have.

Don't you dare presume ** my ** ethics.

Me, and the 5.5 million other Californians that consider themselves Republican, right?

Tell me, I'm uninformed, right? Hrm. Right. I'm a brain-washed little Republican zombie who spouts off "GO BUSH!" even though I disagree with him for several ideological reasons. Right.

BTW, I love how Skeptical's last post was nothing but insults and comments on "environment" instead of anything useful and pertinent. Don't get started on how many people voted twice. I am not going to say that Republicans didn't do it, because I'm sure they did, but I can guarantee you that just as many democrats did too. Also, I am from Indianapolis, and there are plenty of democrats here. I argue with them all the time at school :) However, none of them have been as rude, obnoxious, and off the point as you. In fact, one of them actually had a good point once... I've seen no good points from you yet, just exaggerations and pointless insults.

evil dictator? c'mon, i'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but that's taking it pretty far. i certainly wanted him out of office for reelection, but i seriously think he was doing what he thought best for america.

The evil dictator part is referring to Hussein

"Homophobia" PLEASE! One of my best friends is gay! You obviously didn't really read what I wrote. I don't mind gays having the same legal rights as married couples. I do mind changing my definition of marriage because of them.

BTW, Skeptical, I repeat that there are quite a few liberals in Indianapolis, just as there are quite a few conservatives in California. Your ignorance and arrogance astound me. (Not to mention your complete incorrectness of grammar. The subject is plural so the correct word is "astound" not "astounds." I thought you were supposed to have read a lot and to be fairly intelligent?)

Sad really. Get a clue. This isn't 1950s McCarthy era, and this isn't time for the 1980s Reagans either.

flipchick: you annoy me. enough said. one of my best friends is gay too. when his partner of 10 years was in a car accident and didn't have medical insurance to pay his hospital bills, they almost went bankrupt. now if they were a married couple (as they should be by law) that would be no problem. I've been to Indianapolis. Ugh. My family lives there. Thankfully they work against the incorrect norm in your state.

tlaktan is now my new fav repubican. karl rove watch out, the Party Leader of the Young Republicans has a message.

Your sardonic humor is not appreciated, SSNYC.

I have a question, however flipchick.

Your views on marriage, I am guessing, stem from Christian values. How can you say that your definition of marriage is more correct than my definition of marriage which is that any two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives with each other should be considered married?

In a response to one of pixie's earlier posts, both Jefferson and Hamilton were Deists, not Christians and actually despised the idea of an organized religion. While they believed in a higher figure, they did intend the United States to be devoid of a national religion or policies being governed by religious beliefs.

I have no problems with conservatives, including two of my best friends who are ardent conservatives. I would like to see some more healing in this country and the distinction of red and blue states go away. If I inflamed others through this thread, I am sorry, I am purely stating my beliefs as to how I believe the country should be run.

tlkatan, you make very strong points and I must say you are fairly convincing. What school do you go to in Los Angeles? I live here too. Hopefully you are safe and dry from all the rain.

I hope that in the future we can express our views without arguing or jumping down each others virtual throats.

Good, you annoy me too. And that story was soooo touching. Not really. Gay rights--Yes. Gay Marriage--No. You don't seem to understand that, do you? Has anyone else seen any truly valid points from Skeptical yet?

Who said i was being "sardonic"? and flipchick...i'm not going to bother you with a response, you are a waste of my time. Your username is fitting.

Jaug1, although my personal views on marriage do stem from my personal beliefs, I am strictly talking about the legal sense of marriage. Marriage, legally, is defined as a union between a man and woman. I don't see why we should change that. I don't mind gays going through some service, religious or not, to be come "married" in their own terms, but, legally, I feel it should be called something else. It's just wording for me on that issue. I have nothing against gays. Believe it or not, I don't argue like this with most Democrats (I have nothing against you, Jaug). I just can get very heated when others get insulting.

Thank you. I think healing the rift between parties is the most important task right now -- nothing can be accomplished unless we compromise.

As far as where I go to school.. hah. I go to a pretty bad school, Los Angeles Senior High School. CEEB Code 051680 (lol, you know you've done too many college apps when you've memorized this by heart).. It's at the corner of Olympic and Rimpau. We're failing under NCLB, overcrowded, and umm.. yeah. We're in the PI-4 stage of NCLB, one more year of failure and we're doomed to state takeover or something else.

(tries to scream out a weak, yey!)

As for the rain, yeah. It's terrible. My whole backyard has been flooded. Argh.

as a more liberal-minded person, especially when it comes to social issues, i find your points pretty much idiotic too.

Seems to my like everyone is a waste of your precious time, Skeptical. You think you are above everyone else. Come down to Earth! You are not the center of the universe.

I understand exactly where you are coming from, but I am just confused on where it says legally that marriage is between a man and a woman. Thanks for the understanding.

I actually don't know of that school tlaktan. Do you know of The Oakwood School? We are a small private school in North Hollywood (down the street from NoHo High). Good luck on your apps. What is your first choice? I am going to be attending Columbia in the fall.

oy vey. i wish you all had been with me at the Boston Convention. Actually, not with me. But I wish you had been there. That was magic. Maybe that would have let you seen the light (and I'm not talking in a religious way here).
