I sorely hate the "no links" rule, but look up the conservatory project. basically it's a partnership with the kennedy center that brings a ton of musicians and ensembles from music schools around the country to perform. some include Berklee, Oberlin, Jacobs, Curtis, New England Conservatory, Peabody, Manhattan school of music, Juilliard and more. Be sure to check it out because I know it's hard to find professional quality videos of ensembles and performances by members of the school you're looking to go to. This is a perfect place to see the level of talent, the whole website is pretty cool actually with hundreds of videos on all sorts of things.

I think you are allowed to use links to legitimate educational resources, just not to personal youtube videos, etc.

18karat, I’ll take whatever heat there may be (my guess will be nada) from the administration/mods and post the link.

[Kennedy Center: Millennium Stage Conservatory Project](http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/conservatory2008_10.html)

If you read the TOS, prohibited links include those to blogs, private websites, commercial ventures, youtube and social media sites, competing sites. While the forums are for the most part self policing, links to sites like the Kennedy Center fall within the realm of acceptability. If you take a look through the Useful Music Links thread, there are a good number of similar types of links.

I’ve had some off the board exchanges with some of the moderators in the time I’ve been here trying to clarify the issue. The basic premise is that if is an expansion of the general topical knowledge base, you’re probably ok.

Again, I’m speaking not as a mod or admin, but from the perspective of a longtime poster. If you feel a link is worth posting, but might be questionable, it would make sense to run it by a moderator first.

awesome, thanks for the clarification

If you are in or near the DC area, these performances are free. In the case of tonight’s performance, the chamber choir of the Manhattan School of Music, you’ll see sophomores, mostly students only a little older than where most college seniors are now. I don’t know who’s coming to represent the other schools, but it’d still be a great chance to get a look at some of what’s at each of the major schools without having to travel.

My kid did this! My other son, who lives in DC, took his girlfriend - cheap date. They got to sit in the “special guests” section reserved for family and friends (and got a parking pass, too). And enjoyed several other patrons coming up to them to advise them that they weren’t allowed to sit there. :)

My S was frustrated, though, that it was an unpaid gig, and he had to turn down a couple paid ones to do it. I don’t even think they paid travel, but they may have talked them into it.

Previous performances have been archived, and can be seen on their website.
