The Core in the first year

For those of you who have already completed your first year at H, what Core courses would you say have the best instructors? As a possible Molecular Bio/Linguistics major, which ones should I begin with?

It's hard to recall off the top of my head but I remember using the CUE guide to make my decisions. I had a great L+A B51 prof but that class isn't offered anymore :(

What was his/her name?

Lit B-51 is First Nights, isn't it? Tom Kelly teaches that course. He's on leave next year, but he'll be back the following year (and I presume that class will be offered).

Well I'm trying to remember if class of 2012 will be held to the core, though I think you'll have a choice b/w core and gen. ed. curriculum, but anyway, strong cores include (don't necessarily know if they're offered this year):

FC 34, 48 & 76
Hist Stud A 76 & 87
Hist Stud B 45 & 64
Lit A 17, 26 & 35
Lit B 21, 49, 51, 52 & 68 (also Music 1a and 1b & VES 71 and 72)
Lit C 14, 40, 56 & 61
MR 22 & 54
QR 28 & 50 (also any math 1, 19, 20, 21, 23, 25 or 55 can work)
Sci A 29, 35, 39, 41, 47, 49
Sci B 23, 44, & 62
SA 34, 43 66, 74

Though if you're mol bio. or linguistics you don't need to take QR since you'll be exempt regardless of choice, though without knowing your concentration for sure you should probably avoid the sciences, FC, and SA for your first couple of terms. But yeah shop all you can that first week and read up on the CUE to get a better idea, and good luck.

Um core sucks, gen ed ftw

Meh. I'm a 2012er, and I think I'm going to go Core. (We get an option of either/or.) Gen Ed requires eight semesters of work, whereas the Core only requires seven. Six if you get a language citation. And with the rate of approval for Gen Ed classes, I'm not convinced that we're going to have a very good selection in the early years in order to get through all eight semesters.

Just for the record, MR 22: Justice is a good course. It's the only one I have experience in, but definitely worth it in my opinion. And I'm going to try out Hist B 34 next semester, so we'll see how that goes.
