Good HL (CORE Literature) Class

I just got my AP scores and saw that I will have to retake an English Literature class after all. I'm an engineering student, so I would like to take a class that does not involve extremely intensive work, but something more interesting for someone with a brain like mine. I'm also an Honors student, so I can take Honors Seminars. Any course recommendations?

Any suggestions?

LOL sounds like you’re in the same boat as I am…

I was thinking about doing HONR209Y. Doesn’t sound too bad. I didn’t sign up for it; I wanted a relatively easy first semester. I’ll probably end up doing it when my credit hours aren’t so packed (being BIOE and Honors: ILS makes things tough…)

I’m also a BIOE major and I’m in the ILS Honors program, as well. One class that seemed interesting is CLAS170 (Greek and Roman Mythology). OurUMD says the professor teaching it this semester is really good and he makes the class enjoyable, but there is a lot of reading and a lot of essay-writing, and with ILS+BIOE+PreMed, the last thing I need is a lot of reading and writing on top of what I’ll already be doing. I hope they have more interesting Honors Seminars next semester.

I wouldn’t mind doing the HL junior/senior year. The four year plan for BIOE (which got royally messed up because of ILS) gives us a lot of CORE electives junior/senior year. And you’ll have a better chance of getting the course you want.

How did you satisfy your HA requirement?

Tell me about it. 4 extra biology classes on top of all the other classes and I still need to find room for Organic Chem 2 and lab and an extra regular Chem and lab since I placed out of CHEM135/136. One good thing is that the director of ILS said he might let BIOE majors out of the Biomathematics requirement for ILS since we have to take Biocomputational Methods as part of the BIOE curriculum.

I’m still thinking about what I’ll do about HA. HONR238D (Contemporary American Musical Theatre) seems interesting, but we’ll have to see what the class lineup is for next semester.

Definitely take the American musicals class for the HA, if possible. Dont have any suggestions for HL, i AP’d out of it.

I wish I’d AP’d out of it. I still don’t know how I didn’t get at least a 4 on AP Lit.

Take this if you have any interest in musical theatre. It’s an amazing class. Great professor too. It’s been offered like every semester in recent years so I think it’s a mainstay for a while.

Its also one of i think only 2 or 3 honors seminars with two sections. Great class, and i managed to get into it my first semester this past year, even though its really popular and fills quickly.
