Besides deadlines, are there any differences between ED1 and ED2? Some people once told me that there's completely no difference, but I'm kind of skeptical.

So, offer your opinion?

So, offer your opinion?

Besides deadlines, and the fact that if you’ve been admitted somewhere ED I, you can’t apply somewhere else ED II, there’s completely no difference.

I see. I thought that students have much more time for ED2 application, so I assumed that ED2 can be a little harder.

That’s not the key issue. The key issue is that just like ED I, ED II is binding. So if they take you, they know they’ve got you, and you’re not going to go to Penn State or Colorado College or Elon instead. And that helps their yield.

EDI - for the student who knows he/she wants to attend School X and has the GPA and SAT scores needed for admission.

EDII - for the student who knows he/she wants to attend School X, but wants one more shot at the SAT, or had so-so grades in 11th grade and wants to show really good grades from the 1st semester of 12th grade.

The later deadline for EDII means that first semester grades will be considered, as will a December (or maybe even January) SAT/ACT test date.

The ED II candidate might also be waiting to see his or her results from an EDI application to another school. Or, as you suggested, he or she might just want a bit more time to get those essays done! :)

Thanks, Sikorsky and dodgersmom! You explained very clearly:-)

Also, ED 2 for kids that didn’t get in at their ED 1 school…
