Are there quite a few "fake" people at USC? Can this be attributed to the Los Angeles and party scene?

No, it can be attributed to USC. I was born in Los Angeles and have lived here most of my life. Even those many moons ago, it was referred to as University of Spoiled Children. Nothing new here. There are many other schools in this area without the “fake” vibe.

Sorry sheepster, just not true. There are always a few fake people in most settings, and many many many more genuine ones. I don’t know how old you are but if you are talking about many moons ago, I suspect you know nothing about these universities today. Your blanket prejudice is pretty rigid.

aces,

SC is one of the most diverse universities in the United States. It has all sorts of students from all over the world. I think a senior could find compatible people on any large campus.

Roughly 60% of the students receive some sort of financial aid. Hundreds attend with the help of merit scholarships. A large percentage of students are the first in their families to attend college. Over half the students are actively involved in community service organizations or participate in service projects.

Spend some time on campus and visit with students. Attend a USC symphony concert. Sit in on a class. Visit the game pipe lab. Tour the School of Cinematic Arts. See the engineering school and the robotics lab. Find out for yourself if SC is a good fit for you.

My answer was in response to “Are there quite a few…”. Of course any setting will have a variety of personalities. As for being current, brother teaches there now and nieces currently attend.

It’s not really true. In some few cases, like if you go to a frat house, yes. Otherwise, the people here are extraordinary.
