The hardest book you have had the (dis)pleasure of reading?

I LOVED The tale of two citiessssss=]!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I <3 Charles Dickens' works.
Hmmmm, I disliked Their Eyes Were Watching God.

I hate anything and everything by Charles Dickens. I can't stand his writing.

I loved Wuthering Heights.. I read it during I think sophomore year just for fun.

It has to be Anna Karenina for me. I mean, you can basically sum up the whole story in 5 chapters - I don't want to read 5 pages on Vronsky's taxes (which I think there actually is)!

Mrs. ****ing Dalloway!!
ugh!! hated it with a passion!

My school generally doesn't make us read very challenging books, but even some of the short (~200 pages) supposedly "easy" reads are actually quite miserable.

I'm thinking of mainly "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles (sophomore year) and "April Morning" by Howard Fast (freshman summer) - possibly the two worst books I've ever read.

On the other hand, I actually enjoyed reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Night" by Elie Wiesel. You take the good with the bad, I suppose. Thank God my teachers only assign us these books that are basically outdated kids' books - if I ever had to read "Anna Karenina" (or anything that long/difficult), I think I'd gouge out my eyes.

Wuthering Heights.
Heart of Darkness.
Frankenstein, except for the four chapters focusing on the monster. Strangely, I found the essay I had to do for this book to be fun.

Jane Eyre & Lord of the Flies. Ewwww.

My favourite would have to be a play, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead.

Dont know if this counts…

The Aeneid. In latin.

But in english it would have to be Hamlet.

I never finish books. Sparknotes is my savior.

El Cantar de Mio Cid in Spanish was definitely the worst for me. Spanish isn’t my native language, so it was hard AND boring at the same time.

In English, I really disliked Hemingway’s “A Farewell to Arms”. Dry and I’ve never liked his choppy style. Yuck.

My daughter hated Grapes of Wrath. Crime and Punishment was interesting for her

faulkner’s style in light in august is absolutely sublime but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to rip the book apart every several pages. something about the book is just sooo frustrating.

Not particularly difficult but I didn’t like Angela’s Ashes or The Scarlet Letter.

And Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was much better than Pride and Prejudice.

Hardest Books: Dante Divine Comedy, Nathaniel Hawthorne The House of the Seven Gables

Lamest Book: Tim O’Brien The Things they Carried

Beloved, by Toni Morrison

C&P was good. Heart of Darkness was TERRIBLE. I never want to read it again, EVER.

Every book I’ve read in Lit (minus The Joy Luck Club and Waiting for Godot) was a complete waste of my time.
Lit=way to make kids read books that used to be best-sellers, but now aren’t, and probably for a good reason…

James Joyce’s “Ulysses”.
I tried reading it. I really did. I couldn’t stand it. Joyce was just showing off.
