*If you plan to read "The God of Small Things" - which I sincerely hope you never have to - major spoiler alert.

...and have no idea what the hell just happened when you finish? I have to write three journals (super detailed, with analysis and all that junk) about three parts of the book. However, the book of course, is written all out of order, so one paragraph can be now and the next paragraph, or even sometimes in the same one, can be set 20 years earlier. I also don't get the theme. It's about a family in India. The mom of twins pulls an Adam and Eve in the forest with an Untouchable (of course we don't learn about this until the end of the book) and ruins everyones lives, the male twin having to go live with his dad, who's abusive. Then their cousin comes to visit from England and drowns in the river and her aunt or something (another thing, I have no idea who the characters are) blames it on the mom and her twins (twins were with her when she drowned). Then she tells them to blame it on the Untouchable guy who really didn't do it so she can try and save their family's "name". He dies from being beaten by cops. He was a communist - yes, the whole book is set in a time when communists are trying to take over India.

NOW, my teacher said in an email that the communist part of the book plays a huge, gigantic, massive role in the story - but it really doesn't. I fail to see it. What do I dooooo.
