The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

That list of regional reps might be alumni, not admissions officers. I think the admissions email addresses should be someone @fas.harvard.edu. My midwest regional rep is not on that list. Your guidance counselor may know who your regional rep is, or call the admissions office. I met my regional rep when I signed up for an admissions interview at Harvard in the Fall. Harvard does interviews on request (before and after the peak admissions season), but doesn’t advertise it much. It was my first interview and not my best – I got better with practice.

I’m an HYP waitlister. I’ve signed up for Dartmouth (no deposit, which is cool!). Dartmouth is a great school, but I’m still hoping for Harvard.

That’s about how I feel, and so do some of my friends. We knew how hard the Ivies are, and we covered ourselves with good backups. I keep telling myself I’ll be happy wherever I go, but I’m having trouble letting go of my dream.

Is there any benefits in directly contacting regional reps?

dreamhigh91,

If you have an advocate at Harvard, it’ll probably be your regional rep (unless you’ve got a coach or professor pushing for you, which is always a good thing). I figure it can’t hurt to make sure the rep knows Harvard is still my 1st choice.

So I got waitlisted too.

And I snail mailed a letter of updates and my 3rd quarter grades…but I haven’t been contacted by my regional rep. She’s never actually contacted me about anything. Is that a bad thing?

Tharp993, I have been told that it doesn’t matter if you contact your regional rep directly or not. Whatever you send will get to them. Is it a bad sign that they haven’t contacted you to say they’ve rec’d material? I hope it’s not a bad sign because my kid’s in the same boat. :)

Updating the list to include the newbies. We’re up to 34.

Hi everyone. I too had been wait listed for Harvard 2014 and I recently sent in some documents to Harvard College Office of Admissions to update my activities. I was reading some of the posts and I am confused whether I should contact my regional representative or Harvard directly?

BTW: I am from NY

Either is fine.

Welcome astrophy :slight_smile: … We’re up to 35.

Hi guys, I was trying to just lurk but realized that the next month would be agonizing if I couldn’t vent. I’m also on Harvard’s waitlist, from the northeast, and interested in some sort of mathy subject.

I did some research and have these numbers if anyone is interested:
T.A. = total accepted
A.W. = accepted off waitlist

Class: T.A. A.W.
2010 ** 2109 ** 16
2011 ** 2058 ** 50
2012 ** 1948 ** 227
2013 ** 2046 ** around 80
2014 ** 2110 ** Good luck to us

If someone wants to trawl the internet searching for data on yield, that would be great. I could just find approximates like 76% which isn’t actually that helpful.

I’m going to some graphs of hypothetical acceptances of waitlist based on different yields (soon) if no one else does it first. I’ll be on this thread a lot!

The Official Harvard Class of 2014 facebook group is now up to 1076 members as we near the end of May 1st. Let’s hope for a low yield!

Well we only have a couple more days left until we get the official!

So if yield remains 76%, I think 51 people will be accepted off the waitlist. Ugh… Not as exciting as I had hoped.

The last column is the important one.

Y. = yield
E.S. = Enrolling students
S.W. = Spots for waitlistees
A.W. = accepted off waitlist*

Y.E.S._ S.W. A.W.
70% 1477 173** 192**
71% **1498 **152 169
72% 1519 131 146
73% 1540 110 122
74% 1561 89_ 99
75% 1583 68_ 76
76% 1604 46_ 51
77% 1625 25_ 28
78% 1646 4 4
79% 1667 0__ 0
80% 1688 0__ 0

1650: estimated spots

Although most people will accept Harvard’s offer of admission, some people will turn it down. I assume a waitlist yield of 90%

Well don’t put your hopes down, qizite; it is all just speculation. Once The Crimson posts their annual article regarding yield and whatnot, we have a concrete statement.

True. Optimism!

Actually the class size is targeted to be 1665-1675.

Yes yes yes! You are looking at the supreme idealist right now! Positive thoughts breed positive outcomes. Sooo if you ever need cheering up, I’m your wo-man!

Cicero: I know that the targeted class is around 1675, but that includes people who took gap years last year (whether forced by the z-list or not), So I am giving them 25-30 spots which I think is a reasonable estimate. If you have more exciting data (for us that is) that would be awesome!

I think we will get exciting data to be honest. I am having faith ^_^.

I think last year about 1/3 of CC wait list got in, if I read correctly. There are 1077 as of a few minutes ago on fb. You are right MorganSimone! There is hope and faith always and I am counting on it for all of you as well as my daughter.
