The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

There are a lot of people that creep on this site without actually signing up for a while, pappa1. How are you much more credible? You only have 9 posts.

SDedalus: with the ability to obtain all these data, congratulation… you are in… no need to be on the wait list

geoindy: I know at least a few athletic recruits who were not admitted, so there are still people who have coach connections or whatnot on the waitlist.

FenwayLover: My source is the Admissions Officer who oversees all applicants for my part of the country. The WL number and the dates were given to me without me asking. I had called to make sure two additional recommendation letters had made their way to my folder. Signing off for a few days. My last AP (Bio), and the one for which I am least prepared, is Monday. I love Fenway, too! – SD

Assuming a waitlist yield of around 80% (just guessing on that)…that would mean about 80 people are offered places off the waitlist to get 65 people to accept a spot off the waitlist into the Class of 2014.

BTW The Harvard facebook group has 1140 people in it right now.

When will the Harvard Crimson be announcing its yield and the number of waitlisted students they intend on taking?

How does Harvard’s Waitlist work? Do they look to see what regions are lacking? Do Regional Admissions Officers fight for their waitlisted students before the committee?

So many questions. :(

I’ve heard they try to keep their class integrity as intact as possible and closest to what they’ve admitted. So for instance if your perfect twin didn’t choose to go to Harvard, chances are they would accept you off of the waitlist.

hey guys!

i am on the harvard waitlist and i was wondering what everyone’s opinions are on how they go down the list - i know of kids in my school that are being accepted off of other waitlists (i.e. yale) already; if we haven’t heard anything is it likely we are further down on the list, or has harvard not even begun to accept WL kids yet?

thanks!

@nyprepster: harvard takes longer to make its waitlist decisions. They haven’t started to accept any WL kids yet, nor have they even said how many they have chosen to take off yet. And as for their methodology, all any knows is that they take another look at everyone’s application (no pre-set list), but other than that they are a mystery.

thank you, boggler!

nyprepster: not really, the process usually starts with Crimson announcing the Yield… certainly, if the Yield is very high then you can kiss all the us waitlistees goodbye. on the other hand if the yield is low, then , there is hope …

Well, we know they are taking people off, but now it’s a matter of how many they will take off.

For the list, please change the school at which I am matriculating from Penn to undecided (between Penn and Yale - I just got off the WL there!!)

Congrats dan! So if you get off Harvard’s, would you choose that over Yale/Penn?

@dan92: what kind of updates did you send to Yale (letters, calls, accomplishments, etc.)?

We are from Florida. My son got a call today May 8th from Yale. He is happy but still waiting for Harvard to call.

What supplemental information did your son provide Yale (if any) when he was waitlisted?

Does anyone know what Yale’s yield was this year?

Sdedalus: Thanks for the follow up. Good luck on the Bio AP.

Welcome! We have reached 100 waitlistees on this thread. Considering that the number of waitlistees is assmued to be in the hundreds, that is a very impressive percentage of the entire Harvard waitlisted population. Good luck to us all!

I’m putting college of matriculation in brackets. Feel free to state your own and I’ll add it.

If your name is in bold PLEASE come out and say hi so we can confirm that you are remaining on the waitlist! Thanks!

Updated with wonderful lurkers. More people should come out and join us! (100 people so far; 77 for sure-23 unknown)
